herbie goes bananas again

Post by herbieh »

Well, i hope the aar and forum hacker has been hung, wobbly and i had just started a new game, scene 19, herb as japs, 140%, wobbly 100%, but historical reinforcements.
Same AAR deal, seperate AARs, I hope.

Not much to report yet, actually not a single engagement of any kind in 5 days

A lot of that is due to my plan

Counter to everything you hear about japan must attack from day 1, Im going to do nothing, diddly squat for the 1st month
The key to beating wobbly is sinking his carriers, and last time he was masterful in keeping them away from my death star, eventually I tried to get clever, broke the star up and was beaten in detail.

So plan 1
Leave a great big invite for wobbly to committ to lunga, or PM or GG, then with the death star force a battle

Plan 2
If wobbly doesnt fall for the bait, wait until the death star arrives, then commence invasions, if he resists, well we will see

Until the death star arrives, why risk exposing any ships, or planes or regiments until the death star arrives.

Port Moresby.... the risk is that he will pile it up with planes and men.
Answer, nothing committed anywhere else, plenty available to win a major victory there.

Any way , that is the plan.

The only action so far is the dispatching of a HQ by fast transport to lea, the transfer of all Kure detachment troops to Shortlands, and the landing of a small naval garrison at woodlark.

Another small naval garrison is loading to go to Buna.
Small forces, small exposure.
25 days to go until the death star arrives in Japan..[:D]

seperate AARs

Post by herbieh »

Hope so, we had a few then the hacker killed it.
No action today, IM reconning PM, I think he is bugging out, WAU seems to have been evacuated too.
Yep, love that new smiley

Small fast Transport hits BUNA tomorrow, that might stir the pot.

cowards

Post by herbieh »

Me thinks wobbly is running away, more CAs spotted in PM, and less troops.
Buna troops land quietly, the ships get away.
A 2nd 2dd force leaves shortland to bring in some beer to the troops at buna.

hopefully wobbly will get his AAR up and running soon, or this could get a bit one eyed!

celebrations

Post by herbieh »

masive celebrations in japan as the vitally important port of naru is captured...[8|]

next target is dobadura, the fast transport TF sails to shortland where the next small naval garrison prepares

Thunderstorms , and all A/C are stood down.

Wobbly says he will post soon.[:)]

1st blood

Post by herbieh »

Slako kiwi still hasnt posted.(but standby for a 1st person epic according to his E mails)
Imperial forces score 1st blood, I 126 scores a hit on a DD of townsville, probably a fast transport from PM.
Thunderstorms still ground all A/C, I need to recon, but Im now a very very operational loss aware player, recon can wait another day.

The next fast transport is dispatched with a single naval garrison to basilik, the dot next to GG, capture it, then mine the hell out of it.
Lunga still beckons.....

Tit for tat

Post by herbieh »

Wobbly subs strike, 3 torpedoes into a tanker of new ireland. She must be tough, as she will make kavieg no problems.
South sea detachment ordered to load to invade Munda, Shortland now has a field working, and a squadron of zeros move in.

reconning ordered this turn
Still deathly quiet on the south pacific front[>:]

Seems like you'll have to go and dig Wobbly out of his cave in this one [;)]
Will be interesting to see where you strike - Oz, Noumea or Luganville/Port Efate.
That's where the big show will go down.....

Looking forward to it all [8D]

wobbly tactic

Post by herbieh »

Wobbly is hunting my subs of townsville hard, and the sea of that base is red with them.
It really looks like wobbly is going to pull out of PM, and dig in way down south.
Tanaka forms a fast transport at Truk, and loads the 4th Naval garrison, it will go to shortlands, refuel, and then make a dash for PM, a cheap win if it comes off.
Will risk the CVs , still no sign of them, will put all planes on navalsearch tomorrow.
Another successful unload, basilic island operation going well.

The big question will be how to respond if wobbly just hunkers down.
The answer I think lies in his tendancy towards victory disease......[:D]
Must devote much thought to this.....

caution

Post by herbieh »

still advaning with minimal force, the next naval garrison force to load from shortland is ordered to investigate GG, risky me thinks.
Still no sign of wobbly forces
South sea detachment heads south, munda the target.
Another regiment at truk loads, it will go to pre positioning way NE of lunga, when the CVs arrive only then will it go in.
Tanaka approaches shortland, about half the 4th naval garrison onboard.
they will stir the pot.

And that tanker fills up horribly quickly, tomorrow she wont make port, poor effort that!

convoys

Post by herbieh »

large numbers of ships flow into truk, I spent today setting up routine convoys, mostly using the 3000k transports
Mines!!!
A DD hits one outside of buin, and my MSWs detect more in the slot, wobbly is being sneaky
Tanaka reaches shortland, will unloads to allow reforming to replace the damaged DD.
The quick grab for PM is on using 4th naval garrison, if its insufficient in strength, maybe we can get wobbly entangled in a war on my ground, not his.

South Sea detachment sails to Munda, Yazawa still loading for Lunga.
Wobbly is going on holidays for 2 weeks, poo.

Wobbly snuck another turn in.
spent that turn loading 21st regiment for Irau operations, and the 65th is earmarked for GG
reconning hard, and all A/C are on naval search, the seas are empty, and PM looks very empty.
was surprised that the minesweepers were not hit by subs, maybe wobbly hasnt heard that trick.
tanaka loads, 2 days will see troops at PM, I hope.[&:]
the next small naval garrison force I have lands at GG, next turn will see truly what wobbly is up too, the trick will be not to play to his tune!

back at last

Post by herbieh »

Well wobbly returns. Heavy naval search spots a CA task force, Australia and chicago for sure in PM. Tanaka reaches there next turn, although I think its another fast transport run, and will be gone before I arrive.
GG falls!
Another fast transport to run supplies to gg, and thats the sum of action. Hope wobbly is feeling impatient, lunga still is empty.

Sounds of silence

Post by herbieh »

Tanaka arrives PM. Mines are swept and by a miricle none detonate. Ever notice how the japanese radar ships always cop it if only one ship gets hit.
Well, the place looks empty, Ive ordered a shock attack, about 1000 troops ashore.

If the place is empty I will need to think carefully on troop deployment.
Now wobbly is Im sure expecting a big Aussie or Noumea invasion, the idea will be to keep him thinking that, and force a battle, the invasion force will be very light on troops, heavy on warships.
That is the future. Long way to go. I consider capturing PM with out loss a major gain.[8D]

going

Post by herbieh »

to pot!. If the plan was to lure wobbly to fight for GG or PM, thats gone, PM falls to me with out a caso

Will now need about 3 weeks game time to move into Lunga and rennell island and irau, bit short on transports, and KB is still 11 days away from japan.
I expect massive reinforcements then.
I lose a msw to subs at munda, no luck this game at all so far in sinking them.

dislocated plans

Post by herbieh »

Well PM is mine, and already the B17s begin to hammer the poor troops there.
How to garrison the place?.
I think a division will do, with every coastal gun and mine I can muster, wont waste engineers though.
Little else to report, re deploying subs to munda for the next phase, I dont think wobbly will fight for it, but lunga remains in allied control.
Re ordered 65th brigade to dobadura.
So, the lure to battle plan isnt working, what to do?

Wobbly tells me in a E mail that his carriers have been sent home. Wish I could belive him
Not much happening today, Thunderstorms ground the planes, and Im still waiting for the fleet to arrive.
Munda is almost at size 4.
Where to build the main bases?

Missing carriers

Post by herbieh »

Little happening at the moment, Ive made a big mistake and have all my transports scattered all over the place on routine convoy runs, and havent left any to carry all the troopsthat are at Truk into the battle. Its 10 days until KB arrives at Japan, another couple of weeks until they arrive here.
Im very tempted to sail Shok and ZUIK and have a raid, but all the escorts are at shortland.

Wobbly is a tricky buggar. Where are his carriers? really at pearl?

Ive ordered all the subs back to munda, s/by for sneaky troop transports.

the plan continues to fall apart, frustrated at the amount of shipping tied up carrying forces poised to the north of lunga, I order the attack parties to land. No CV support, tanaka will cover with his CAs, lunga, tulgia, rennell island and irau in one go.
If wobbly CVs about Im doomed[:(]
