If you truly love Monandock, then wait until HMS Erebus and HMS Terror. Same short range and slow speed, but at least they'll take the first hits and blows. :)

No, no cannon fodder. Erebus/Terror will open fire at long range, forcing enemy to reciprocate. By the time Monandock finally crawls into range, enemy will be trying to spare its 14"-16" shells.
