Is it possible to have the hotfix in the usual 'installer' format? My opponent is unfortunately computer illiterate (don't think he'd mind me saying that). I have tried to give detailed instruction but..... He has three games on the go and I suspect they will die if he can't update.

That's not possible. It's not that hard to do, though.

Just follow the link posted at the top of this thread. This opens the thread in the Tech Support forum, where the first post has an attachment to download. This is a .zip file containing an .exe and .dll file, both of which must be moved into your AE folder. That's it.

It's easy for you and me who are used to computers. but directory structure, unzipping and renaming files are um.....not my opponent's core competencies.

Some of our betas had problems on occasion - my solution was just to get on the phone (or the SKYPE) with them and walk them through it.

Skype works well for things like this because you can point the camera at the computer and show the person what to do vice just telling them.

Suggested installation process:

Backup existing AE EXE file by renaming.

Download attachment install into desired AE folder containing current AE EXE file.

Unzip. Run.

Run, as in run the game?

All I should have to do is put the zipped hot fix folder into the AE folder and then just double-click it, no?

I can confirm Herwin's text overlay problem at the TF creation screen.

Yes I'm still seeing this one as well. It's not constant unfortunately, I only saw it on one TF during the turn.

Still, congrats on all the other work done with this patch+hotfix. Keep it up.

You unzip it into the folder, yes. The .zip contains two files, and you need both for the hotfix to work.

I'm looking at two icons: pwsdll/dll, and another called War in the Pacific Admiral Edition, but there is no change in my AE version when I fire-up the game.

What am I doing wrong?

Take a look at this site. It should give you some background that most people on this forum will find tedious to explain. In step 4 you should "Browse" to the C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific directory.

I'm still trying to find out if you need to restart your game with this hotfix, or if you can continue a saved game. I'm sorry if I missed this information somewhere else. I'm only into the 2nd turn, but I hate to go throught the first turn again.

You can continue the save game.

What we did:
1. Resolve the turn using Patch2, Japanese player saves the game and send file to US player to watch.
2. US player watches the replay in Patch2.
3. Japanese and US player updrades to Patch2 Hotfix
4. Japanese gives orders using Patch2 Hotfix, sends file to US player
5. US player loads and gives orders.

BTW,
I noticed that I cannot access my stacked TFs in the hex anymore.
When I click on it, it brings me to the Base screen, not the TF list.
Only way to go though the TFs now is via the bottom panel.

And also since Patch2, clicking on the airbase icon in the hex also has erratic behaviour.
It brings me to the squadron list but if I click a squardon it brings me back to Base sceen sometimes.

Started a tech support thread for this: tm.asp?m=2326075&mpage=1&key=&#2326075

jomni, I am guessing that your problem with bringing up the "stacked TFs" is another erratic situation, as I have no problems clicking on the "multiTF" icon to bring up the list of TFs.

Overall I think that there is some tiny GUI problem that crops up here and there, and possibly in a completely different manner for different players (different computers?). The most consistently inconsistent GIU problem I have had since the beta release of patch 2 has been the need to click the "end turn" button several times before it takes the command. Of course, sometimes it takes the command right away...

I have experienced the same off and on " end turn " problem.

Thank you, but I don't see .1096a: my version is now .1096 Dec 19 : I recall it was previously .1095 w/an earlier date in December.

That's all I see as well. You're good to go!
