Was this with the beta patch? That reputedly increases flak damage.

I generally find flak ineffective but the bigger units have Radar and thats very useful.

For the point 1. maintenance this is already in the game and quite effective. The B25 with their service rating of 2 outshine any 4E Bomber in that case. With B25 you can do a daily bombardment with a lot more operable planes. With 4E you can only keep around 50% operable if do you daily runs.

I like my B25 for ground support and would take 40 more each month for 20 less B24-J.

Maybe if you are flying off level 3 airfields that are short on av support. Flying off well supplied level 6+ fields with 250+ av support, I rarely have more than a single plane per squadron down for maintenance. Flying every day. In fact, not only flying every day, but nearly max range into interceptors - every - single - day. 4E bombers are pretty good at air to air combat as well (in the GAME). My kill ratio is insanely high against Zeros and Nicks (unescorted bombers). At one point it was 30:1. Realistic as hell, aint it? [:D]

Should also note, 100% flying. None on rest or training.

Following common knowledge, I have sent all operational B17s from Philippines, for attack against Palau (former), at 6000ft, on 8/12/41. They faced CAP of Claudes, and report said, one was shot down.
In reality 6 was downed that day. I do not know, what is concentration of AA at Peleliu, in IRONMAN, but B17s seems immune at higher altitudes, so probably those smaller AA guns work, as they should. There is problem with heavier weapons.

In my PBEM I had 3 B-17s attack CVL Zuiho on turn 5 or 6. At 10,000ft(I think). The very first of the 3 CAP Zeroes to attack downed a B-17 with the first burst, shooting head on.

First and (yet) only time I have seen my fighters kill one over the target... I think it was an E model too.
