Nothing too exciting happened on December 8th:

- S-37 hit a mine at Bataan [;)]

- then "Manila's exodus" started, I-124 took care of a few xAKLs, and afterwards AM Whipoorwill and TK Mindanao sunk by destroyer division. No "juicy targets" destroyed yet.

- All Hong Kong MTB spotted/ sunk

- DDs Scout and Thanet found near Iba, Thanet shot twice in a night fight, they managed to escape.

- All Georgetown xAPs sunk by Saigon's Netties; he was trying to load Georgetown's LCUs

- Ryujo spent all torpedoes against xAKs/ xAKLs [:@]

- Vigan and Laoag captured by paratroops

- Sweeps over Manila destroyed several P-40s. This was followed by a port strike that failed to do significant damage due to Thunderstorm weather. Only one destroyer, 2 SS hit

- Amphibious TF started unloading at Aparri, once again PBYs attacked, but this time I had Nates on LRCAP, all PBYs damaged/ unable to attack

- Khota B failed to be captured on the 1st try.

not a lot happened in December 9th, which is of course good for the empire. Some of the highlights:

- Khota B captured; he is moving south, I don't think I will be challenged until Johore B. Standard air bombing on Georgetown, Khota and Alor Star

- Aparri captured, with it I have now 3 Luzon bases (Loang and Vigan captured yesterday by paras). With supply flowing, I have now rebased two Nate squadrons to provide CAP over the beach heads (Vigan mostly, but some LCUs to Aparri). Tomorrow the main invasions will start.

Other amphibious assaults:
SNLF coy to Pto Princesa; initially I was planning to unload at Jolo, but because I saw a CM (Prince van Orange) there, I would delay this a few days while a DMS cleans it up. Pto Princesa is a flying boat base, by grabbing it I will reduce search capabilities.

Another SNLF coy to Sidate; because of my self restrained rule of no amphibious assaults using big ships over enemy beaches, I decided to start with a coy. Tomorrow the main force will unload, then walk to Manado.

Brunei also invaded and 51st Naval Guard shock assaulted Nauru island

Ships sunk

nothing new to report for Japan.

Today I lost my first "Good" xAK; Yamashimo Maru sunk by S-36; it was a Yusen A,

Not a lot more to comment:

- Sidate landing was completed; so in a few turns I will be ready to assault Manado

- Lots of enemy xAKs/ xAKLs sunk on minor surface engagements. Japanese submarines sunk a couple small tankers

- Brunei, Ocean island were captured today
Miri, Kwanchowan, Pt Princesa, and Kavieng should fall tomorrow

Tomorrow might be more interesting:
I spotted a couple small TFs near a Borneo invasion TF. I have set some TFs to intercept; they will hopefully protect the convoy

December 11th:
Last turn I saw Allied cruisers/ destroyers moving on to intercept Singkawang invasion, this was somehow expected, although I was hoping he would launch it a day after. In consequence I was not fully ready, and so I had to make some tough decisions:
- The first was to detach the TF flagship, CL Isuzu, escorted by TB Kari. They were order to patrol the likely enemy path.
- The second was to split "Cover Force" TF, into two (rather strong) segments, Tanaka remained with the battleships, the other composed of cruisers. I order both TFs to run full speed to intercept.
- I also ordered Miri cover force to go after the threat
- Finally, I ordered Singkawang invasion to run full speed to Miri, this TF remained relatively strong, or better to say, strong for a transport TF; One slow light cruiser, CL Kashii followed by two "E" escorts and several PBs

Results were mixed, but the TF survived, which is what matters.

Before that, some other news:
- AV Langley sunk near Manado,
- A small enemy amphibious TF killed near Jolo.. He was most likely trying to save it's base force
- Another small TF, likely from Manila destroyed; DD John D Ford, xAPs Rochambeau and Neptuna sank, with what looks like another small base force or maybe a HQ.

Invasions:
- Kavieng invaded with what looks like all Australian Catalinas' inventory on the ground [:)][:D]
12 Catalinas and 2 Empire lost according to the FOW report

Battle of Kuching

Night engagements
In the first battle, near Kuching, Sendai found a Dutch destroyer TF, they engaged, but no hits scored.

Second battle, also near Kuching: CL Isuzu found CLs Marblehead, Danae and DDs Alden and Vampire.
In what is probably the best performance I have seen ever, Marblehead and Danae managed to put a torpedo, yes!!! unbelievable, a torpedo at night time. Long story short, CL Isuzu sank, TB retreated.

Third battle:
CAs Atago and Takao, found first a Dutch 2-destroyer TF, sinking Evertsen and damaging Kortenaer. Then they engaged 3 Dutch cruisers; this was near Groot Natoena. Results inconclusive, just a few gun hits.

Day engagements

First battles, Marblehead/ Danae found TB Kari, they sank it.
Then they intercepted the amphibious TF. Surprisingly no ships sank; and only one transport was hit. One PB will most likely sink, CL Kashii is at risk if there is bad luck with the fires.

Second battle, payback time: BBs Kongo and Haruna pretty much destroyed the American TF. CL Marblehead and both destroyers sank, CL Danae left as a floating wreck.

Groot Natoena actions: Takao, Atago, Jintsu first sank DD Kortenaer, damaged from previous battle, then engaged again the Dutch cruisers. Result once again inconclusive, Only DeRuyter on fire... but inside LBA range [;)]

Air strikes

There were several strikes, but I will only discuss those that had consequences:

- First, he moved Vildebeests to Balikpapan, and he managed to ambush Japanese cruisers taking care of the exodus fleet. Both CAs Maya and Ashigara were hit... and both got fires, which really worries me.

- Then Ryujo Betties bombed DD Pillsbury and PG Asheville, most likely will sink

Almost gave me a heart attack... all you need is one hit, in this case two light cruiser caliber hits from either Marblehead or Danae.

This is from the earlier battle:
"BB Haruna, Shell hits 2, on fire"

the fire grew by the second battle... [X(]

By the time I got the turn it was mostly controlled, but still there. I will nervously check again next turn, but for all purposes, Haruna is out of the short term invasions

the heavy fire, not the shells, is what increased the damage

as of now, the bad luck would be of little consequence, there are other battleships taking over in the next few turns

A great turn actually, I was afraid of that "ghost fleet" of 7 ships, but they didn't move north.

What happened?

- Wake island successfully invaded, with minor losses (one AMC lighlty damaged).

- Jolo also assaulted, it should fall tomorrow. Mines were detected, so it was good to send a DMS before the main invasion.

- Several tankers sunk. The two ship TF at Tarakan were actually tankers trying to steal my oil/ fuel.. they are sleeping with the fishes.. other than that, submarines and SCTF took care of additional tankers/ oilers:
TK Hai Kwang, Torpedo hits 3, and is sunk
TK Pendopo, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
TK British Sailor, Shell hits 14, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk
TK Semiramis, Torpedo hits 1, heavy fires

- Also several evemy xAKs, xAKLs, xAPs, CMc destroyed.

- All other invasions (Legaspi, Atimonan, Sorong, Malaya, Luzon) continued with no incident other than unsuccessful submarine attacks

- Vildebeests from Balikpapan were intercepted by Zeros (from Miri) and Claudes (from Ryujo) with predictable high loss of life.

- Dutch cruisers Tromp and Java sank, this to be expanded in the next post

- Finally, B-17s bombed Babeldaob, sinking a ACM and damaging a AD.. I have rebased a Zero squadron to deal with it next turn

December 13 was not the greatest of turns, nothing horrible happened, but it was in many ways a lost day in a tight schedule:

- Dutch destroyers are obstructing the road to Singkawang; BB Kongo and carrier planes just managed to sink a couple. At least one, maybe two DDs are undamaged, and thereby I can't send the amphibious TF through them, another turn will need to be.

- CL De Ruyter found near Camh Rahn bay [X(], but in so horribly bad shape that it didn't ever wanted to fight a couple freighters.. Netties will expand their search arcs tomorrow [;)]

- Jolo captured [:)], Manado failed 1-to-2 [:@] At last, I have one airbase on the DEI air coys will disembark tomorrow. an air HQ will arrive in one or two turns (it was originally going to Manado, but it seems this base will need some time

- Hong Kong at fort level 0, should fall tomorrow

- Naval bombarded Cagayan, results were so-so.. I will repeat in a few turns, once I have recon assets available at Jolo. The ida here is to kill or disable those damned B-17s

- Some additional tankers/ oilers sunk

I had AMCs Aikoku Maru and Hokoku Maru (these 2 start in the south east pacific) moving on direction to New Caledonia; I was not looking for a fight, these two ships are too good to sacrifice, but knowing the Pacific is relatively "empty"; I just looked for an opportunity to inflict some damage, do some chaos on the Allied shipping lanes.

Results were above expectations, but I have a feeling the will be destroyed next turn.

This started with the sisters finding and engaging CA Pensacola [X(] but it was at night and Allied experience/ skill, so early war, has severe issues once the sun sets. The raiders launched their torpedoes on a surprised Pensacola, but they missed, and there was a shell hitting Hokoku Maru. That was all.

During the day phase, they encountered 3 xAPs: Duntroon, Diomed and Limerick; they were empty and most likely moving to the west coast:
