OT - Good old games site

That is definitely not what I'm referring to when I apply the term "puffy". Some of you are aware of my adoration for a person named Halle. You could say, I suppose, that I'm cuckoo for cocoa puffies.

GOG has been around for a long time. They have a forum you can ask questions. If a game doesn't work, I think there is a money back guarantee.

When I was in college a few years back, a friend on mine would play games on his laptop at school between classes from GOG.com.

Better off with GoG, they will help you and they have a community as well. If you don't like it, they will give you credits, but no refund. Beside they are cheap, I mean dirt cheap games and safe.

You can play hundreds of old DOS games for free and without installation - right in your browser (emulator embedded) - here. I'm currently playing the old SSI classic "Clash of Steel" during lunch break at work. [;)]

Edit: Burning Steel - Great Naval Battles II is available there, as well as Pacific Strike, WWII - Battles of the South Pacific, Carriers at War, Western Front, Destroyer, Decision in the Desert...

I must have around a hundred backgrounds that cycle about every ten seconds, there are many of her but many of others and of different ages, just women I've always liked.
If anyone would like copies let me know. A few, three or four, have see-through characteristics you might want to censor. Some, you just won't get. Unlike Halle, most of the women are older than me. Why would that surprise anyone?

D3DRM.DLL is Direct3D Retained Mode, an older graphics display technology from 1997 that was removed from Windows 7 and Vista. However you can download the file here. When you download the File, try putting it in the game directories for both games eg. " C:\Program Files\*Game1* ( its hard to be specific about this because you have not mentioned the games you are tying to play). Give that a go and get back to me on how you went.

Barny, I did what you suggested and then tried to launch Silent Hunter 3, no joy. It's sad, as the Silent Hunter series was really good... I simply can't get any of them to play on Windows 7 Pro...

Barny, I did what you suggested and then tried to launch Silent Hunter 3, no joy. It's sad, as the Silent Hunter series was really good... I simply can't get any of them to play on Windows 7 Pro...

I've been playing Silent Hunter 4 and occasionally SH3 for almost 6 months now (using Windows 7 Pro). Haven't tried SH5 yet though it came in the same combo download from STEAM for $40.

I have played SH3 on home Win 7 many times, but not recently.

As I recall, you first have to get the patch that disables the StarForce DRM horror-show. And then you have to hand-set the screen rez before you launch the EXE. I think it's the second-lowest. 1080 one.

I play the Grey Wolves mod, perhaps the biggest fan mod in the history of gaming. I think the manual alone is over 200 pages.

But bottom-line, Win 7 ought to play it if you do some work.

I waited specifically for STEAM to release the Silent Hunter series because of the Starforce DRM. Better a small hassle with STEAM then letting Starforce mess with my Op system. Even after it came out on STEAM, I waited a bit until I could confirm that no remnants of the Starforce DRM was left in the STEAM release. To this day, I would not buy any CD/DVD version of Ubisoft products because of their overuse of Starforce DRM.

I don't have the "Steam" version, as I didn't know there would be any difference. So what I'm hearing is if I want to run this game, I would need to download the Steam version??? StarForce was as I recall a Russian DRM company that had a short life, but did a lot of industry damage. It had a REALLY obnoxious CEO who loved the PR.

It installed some sort of interim layer of DRM code that got into CD-ROM player hardware in a very intrusive way. It could burn out some CD players of the era, which accelerated its demise. This was in a time when the Net was just becoming a huge vehicle for piracy--just after Napster for music--and game company CEOs were terrified. StarForce sold itself as incredibly strong DRM, and some really big pc game companies, like Ubisoft, bit big for a time. When the reports of hardware destruction started coming in StarForce imploded and disappeared.

Note that IF you have a StarForce version (in later versions Ubisoft pulled StarForce off) you also MUST run a StarForce removal tool. The link is in the above URL. StarForce was a crafty little f***er.

You can also install the Grey Wolves mod and play off your HD. Grey Wolves expands the game in a really massive way, graphically as well as in gameplay. Go here http://www.thegreywolves.com/

You don't need a Steam version to play in Win 7. If you want to pay for the game again I guess you can go that way, but you don't have to.

SH3 Commander is also a very good utility for managing mods as well as campaign launch options on the front end.

I have dozens of Steam games, and if the convenience is worth it to you then it's a way to go. But you don't need Steam to get rid of StarForce.
