I thought I would share a "SNAPSHOT" of a future turn event. We are still on turn 7 (German) but this is from turn 5. Guess that is one way of doing Recon for sure. The Soviets just smile for the cameras I guess ;-)

An exchange rate of 3.59 Soviets for 1 German in previous post during my action phase. I will take it. Granted short term this really means nothing and will not change anything short term. Long term that is another story ;-) Not to mention all of the attacks were from "DOOMED" units anyway that would surrender next turn so why not? Maybe those more "enlightened" than me can tell me why you should not? Anyone?
I’m always delighted when the Soviets do this. It jacks up my win rate, moral and experience. Axis units with morale of 81+ get a significant movement advantage. High exp is good in combat. I’d certainly sacrifice a few men to get these benefits

Win rate for Germans really does not mean a thing :). Morale and experience is nice add here. But by the time they get to the front the extra benefit from a win, if it got one from the win, will most of the time be lost. Harder for high exp and high morale to get a benefit. But yeah nothing big in the long game of things and I too used to like it when Soviets did it to me.

Turn 2

Ground Phase

Before I forget I want to say that I totally forgot about moving the Osel rgmt by sea, about turn 6 I think it was, I finally remembered to move this. WELL by that time it was too late and the area was heavily patrolled. Needless to say all the men went to the bottom with the ships :(. Me and my fast turns and stupidity :(. Oh well the turn must go on from knowing the future

Turn 2

End of Turn North and North Center. I don't auto depot and place my own crappy depots on the map. Yeah I know about the auto depot thing but I like making my own mistakes, gives me a nice handicap ;_). Not as if I am a handicap in and of myself, whatever that means.

Turn 2

End of Turn Pskov

I create 2 stacks of 3 units in the pink circles. This way I have the possibility of the retreating Soviet divisions going where the yellow arrow points to. It is a long shot but I do silly things like this.

Pretty horrid defense but I am playing fast and quick.

Turn 2

End of Turn VL

I hand over VL without a fight and melt into the Heavy Woods behind. You will notice that I always try and keep Armor and Mech behind the lines in my game if I can help it. Germans sneeze and you lose thousands if not tens of thousands if you want to stay close ;-(

Turn 2

End of Turn Smolensk

I retreat from the upper Dnepr back to the east of Smolensk. Of course I was cocky with the Airborne and did not calculate properly in my haste. The airborne is left out to what ever "fate" is in store for him, circled in pink.

Turn 2

Center End of Turn

I have some armor deployed in the "bushes" around Bryansk in pink box. Hope he does not recon this area ;-). (see post earlier of the mass recon, it was close to here in later turns)

I absolutely HATE the Corps HQ's, circled in yellow. Every turn is made 10 times longer dealing with them. I just take them out of my chain of command and happily accept the consequence of not having a good chain of command on most of my units. Sheesh they are a royal PITA!

I have a pretty nice line from North to South just past Kiev :). Even though my opponent said I was the fastest Soviet retreater he has seen (paraphrasing but close enough on sentiments)

Turn 2

You will notice that I defend a great deal of "open" terrain in key places. Open terrain is the German highway and placing units there to cause at a minimum some delay will slow the Germans down. Placing Soviets in good terrain is nice but IF Germans just can move around them when in good defensive terrain then what is the point of the good terrain defense when surrounded? I will show an example in turn 3 snapshots.

Sheesh, could not get back until today. Currently the game is on turn 9 and moving right along. I should be able to do some writing from a horrid player with horrid moves. Do NOT follow my examples there are far far better ones on the forum by better players.

Turn 2

End of Turn South

Well.... The South is.... well, vacant, for the most part. Not because I want it to be vacant but because I needed the bodies somewhere else and ultimately ran out of counters, lol. Who would have thought? I kind of put on a requirement of my own accord I would try to have a full line from North to South. I don't recommend people following that criteria but I am trying to do it as quickly as possible without jeopardizing Leningrad and/or Moscow. Just my silly game condition :)

Turn 2

End of Turn Kiev area

The pink box of units have been slowed down by attacks and could only get to this area.

The Yellow circle is more of those darn Corps HQ's that I detest so much, along with the ones to the North. The ones to the North actually have good leaders in Army HQ's from the South moving to the North to have better leaders where I want them :). Nothing new here and pretty routine.

Turn 2

The Barren Land

The barren land between Kiev and Odessa has few units. Hope to see this land again by 1944 at least :-). That is as far as the stragglers could run to in the snapshot.

Turn 2

Odessa End of Turn

We run like the wind towards Odessa. I have no plans to hold Odessa, although I know how to hold Odessa for awhile now. But this game is "not" that game since doing so would require the Air Force in qty force.

Turn 2

End of Turn thoughts

Pretty straight forward "run like hell" in the south and defend where needed in North and Center. Nothing new nor grand here and just telling a boring story that we can beat up on yet again. My purpose in this game is to see if I can nurture the Soviet Air Force to dominance quickly. All other things in this game is Secondary.
