Hi, I have a message from your air boss "Hello, silly do you see any escorts with these missions? Hello??? 4E bombers will fly without escort but it would be nice if you provided some anyway"

Well enough from that cry baby I say screw the escorts and charge on in.

(Just so you know, there are currently over 200 A6M2 flying CAP over Exlax forces)

DON"T TELL ME THAT!!!![:D][X(]

Hi, 2 days of Exlax Air ops have destroyed 146 Allied aircraft for 38 Japanese (hurrah)
Exlax is a map wide excersie designed to clear the stalemates that exist in China Burma and the SRA. The root cause of Japanese failure to move has been the presence and skillfull use of Allied airpower.
Being basicly a coward I was very reluctant to move into areas Allied air power was active in. I had to prepare the move in a manner that allowed Japan to aquire control of the sky. (That is why the north Borneo landing were unprotected I needed to close those Allied bases but had no airgroups to spare (although the TF did have CAP on some days they were mauled on the days they were out of range of friendly fighters)

I have extended the deadline for completing operations in SRA to 1 Aug 1942. (Phase I)
Phase II operations will commence (they already have) on schedule

Appears Mogami's diminutive hordes are attempting to overwhelm the Malay Barrier with simultaneous landings. Bali may still be an initial target (endured a carrier group air attack during the day) but I now believe Malang to be targetted as well. The Amphibious TF the Allieds attacked yesterday by air tempted the straits (encountering more minefields and suffering damage to an escort) and is now to the west of the lesser Sundas heading NW.

More air attacks were launched vs various naval targets with the Japanese CV TF receiving the attention of a semi coordinated effort of 30+ bombers escorted by an equal number of fighters. Fifty Zeros flew CAP (Does the game allow for the need to rotate CAP...everytime I have CAP over my Bases/TFs, the total seems like the maximum on the combat screen. I'd say at least 30% should always be refueling/rearming/returning). Scored a hit on Shoho with a 500 pounder and surprisingly, it was scored by an obsolete Dutch float plane. This CV TF was the target of a nighttime strike by VP 101 and both Shoho and Zuiho came under attack but no joy for the vets of Cavite.

Tomorrow should prove even more intense than today.

Hi, Standard scenario 15.
Oh Ron as for CAP
If a TF has 107 fighters and 50 are on CAP how many are resting?

Suppose said TF was also in range of 108 landbased fighters?

I asked this question regarding CAP fighter rotation because it has always made me wonder. I'm not being critical, just wondering what the actual ration works out to be.

Hi, On more then one occasion I have fought carrier versus carrier battles and had one or more of my fighter groups set to training so they would rest (opps)
You can bet I have at least one group resting every day. (I don't fly groups over 25 fatigue)
I have learned to retire when more then 20 percent of my fighters need to rest.

Hi, You will note that IJN CV have not been massed into a single TF (so far)
And 1 IJN fleet CV is in Home Islands for regular maintenance with a CVE and CVL retained in Home Islands for pilot training (not required by game but I do it anyway)

(At all times between 1/3 to 1/2 of IJN is in repair ports for maintenance. It is another thing that slows me down but I refuse to run the Navy the airforces or the Army land units to extremes. At all times I try to reduce loss. But that does not mean from time to time I let things get out of hand or miscalculate in ways that result in my being mauled badly. When such events occur you can be certain I didn't plan on being hurt as badley as I am. I simply don't go where I know I will be hurt. I don't fly where the enemy will win and I don't make attacks at ratios below 1-1.

Do the numbers of CAP over a specific TF represent/match the number (%) you put on CAP? I'm not talking about what fighters you stand down, I'm wondering if the game mechanics take into account the dynamics of maintaining a standing CAP. Eg. If you have a Datai of 27 Zeros and you set it to 40% CAP, does it show @12 Zeros on CAP or @8 (assuming 1/3 are in rotation)?

Hi, 40 percent of 27 is 10.8 so my guess is between 10 and 11 fighters would be up.
If TF has radar the numbers can increase (provided they are not flying escort for strikes)
Only 1 IJN carrier group has over 24 AC
The 4 large CV have 24 each Hiryu and Soryu have 21 each Junyo class have 17
most CVL have 18 except 1 that has 28
(Currently my max number of ready CV fighters is 219 (if all CV/CVL not counting any CVE were in same hex with 100 percent up))

OK, so if 10 or 11 are up on standing CAP, do the planes which are rearming/refueling/returning from CAP (the standing CAP of 10 or 11 has to have 3 or 4 more planes) come from the other 60% or is this knackered and the devs miss the need to have some planes rearming?

The onslaught continues at fever pitch. What will be known as the Forlorn Hope air battle off Java results in more massive air losses to the Japanese juggernaut. The few pilots who made it through the CAP fail to score, not surprising given the numbers of CAP arrayed against them. I had hoped the CVs would stay a little farther offshore to keep the AI from stop sending it's planes to sure death but Mogami failed to cooperate, possibly knowing full well this very issue. No matter how one babysits ones assets, one can't seem to keep the AI from doing exactly what you don't want it to do. I really could use some sort of way to impart my will to some degree other than frigging with ranges.

At least, if the AI is going to commit to attacking a CAP strong target like CVs it would commit the whole shebang but no, it must spread itself out. On the positive side, a few planes which did not launch against the carriers hit another follow up amphibious TF.

Subs continue to struggle, with duds being the major problem. At least Howard Gilmore battle surfaced Growler, although his crew's shooting could use some work.

Yenen is becoming an issue. There is just no way I can hold it much longer, what with a half million men bashing away on the defenders. Now we may see how the attacker gains some seriously questionable advantages if a retreat result is achieved at Yenen. Half a million men on going to move through northern China like a land death star. Hopefully my precautions are enough....

This match, by the way, is a blast!!! Especially fun if the player can send a higher than normal amount of turns like Mogami and Scott (Dave 2ndACR) can. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Kind of a strange turn as the combat replay did not match reality and combat results at Soerabaja were completely bogus (replay bug still occurs on occasion). Mogami, if you still have your japanese report, please post it so I have a better idea of what occurred.
