I feel what is required is more judicious shading of the map.
 
Often I think I am looking at a stretch of 3,000 meters of land as flat as a billiard table only to find it is quite undulating.
 
Some artistic shading would fix that.

But these artistic additions are impossible in this game, because of the tileset system.
In addition, this system must be compatible to all kind of contours with the same tiles, from mountain to small hills.
Each tile, whatever color or texture, must work whatever the altitude.
Perhaps the next opus should be conceive differently and with ".png" files to allow more possiblities... ?
