Thats it, pearl is a special case. The JP player gets it for free even though it was a huge gamble that could easily have gone wrong. In the game you are virtually guarenteed a spectacular victory with no risk. But to set up a game in which you are guarenteed to have such success across the board without risk on turn one seems wrong. I just don't see why allied players agree to it.

The allied player should only accept house rules which provide some compensation for whatever restrictions they agree too. In any event we should not worry that the game is unbalanced or inaccurate due to results obtained when the allied player accepts such unbalanced house rules.

I don't see it as unlucky a result as that. Fuso was damaged and on fire earlier from air attack, USN radar, weaker Japanese light forces. If the Fuso was deemed to still be on fire, getting caught in a night attack is suicidal surely?

Even with Fuso on fire, there were two other Jap BBs though. And with crappy US torpedoes, US light forces aren't particularly worrisome against big battleships like Mutsu.

Only the MK 14 is really bad, the MK 15 used on DDs is not a bad torp, not as good as a Long Lance but still very effective.
