Hum I am starting to wonder if there isn't something screwy about thoses Well III...

Never flyed more than 10 and always achieving major effect... sound really strange indeed... Perhaps some corruption or error in OOB that give them tac-nuke... wonder.

WiTP-Dude,

I think that you aren't supposed to get strategic points for bombing Derby and Darwin. I don't have the manual here at work, but I thought it said that only industry in Southern Australia would count for Strategic points. That makes sense to me, since the Japan player could bomb Darwin into the stone age for the first 6 months of the war. It'd be a cheesy way to score some big points early on. Maybe the patch fixed an existing bug, instead of creating one?

Mr. Frag or Nik, can either of you comment on my assumption? I could be wrong, but I swear I read that in the manual in July.

I think that you aren't supposed to get strategic points for bombing Derby and Darwin. I don't have the manual here at work, but I thought it said that only industry in Southern Australia would count for Strategic points. That makes sense to me, since the Japan player could bomb Darwin into the stone age for the first 6 months of the war. It'd be a cheesy way to score some big points early on. Maybe the patch fixed an existing bug, instead of creating one?

Mr. Frag or Nik, can either of you comment on my assumption? I could be wrong, but I swear I read that in the manual in July.

Perhaps, but I did get some points for bombing Darwin and Derby under the previous version. I don't know why you shouldn't get points though, Australia is Australia.

Yes, Australia is Australia. But Why don't you get points for bombing India, China, DEI, etc etc?

I think the strategic points are there for bombing industry in very hard to reach places. West Coast, South Australia, Japan proper. Bombing Darwin is easy. Just take Amboina and poof. You can score lots of points.

I'm not trying to justify the rule. Personally, I think strategic points are wrong in a way. You score double for them. Points for hitting them, and the opponent now has damaged/destroyed industry. Just denying them to the enemy is almost enough.

I was just trying to give you an explanation to why you're not seeing points now. I could be wrong and you have discovered a bug, but I thought I saw South Australia in the manual some time ago.

By the way, could either of you post sunk ships? I've been following your AAR, but I don't know exactly what capital ships are lost. No problem if you can't.

Too many too count. I think it is 5 CVs, 3 CVLs, 5 BBs, and about 9 CAs.

Also, the manual says Australia on page 200, doesn't mention north or south.

Ok. Maybe you should post this in the support forum. If you should be getting points, but aren't, then one of the testers will want to check it out.

So, if that's the case then Strategic points are probably meant to be from countries that don't want their population bombed. China wouldn't care as much as the US. I can accept that. Bombing China denies resources to your enemy. Bombing Darwin denies resources to your enemy as well as causes internal strife that gives your enemy "strategic" problems.

Rule 16.0, page 200: "Points will only be scored by the Allies for bombing industry in mainland Japan, and by the Japanese for bombing industry in North America, Australia, and/or Hawaii."

Dude (or Zeta), would you mind posting major allied losses (CV, BB, CA) so we can see what the war has cost the allies so far as well? The Japanese losses, as of a few 'weeks' ago are pretty clear, but allied aggregates are elusive.

I don't mean to second-guess Dude--well, not too much!--but the carriers lost around NZ and perhaps the 100,000 troops could have been usedin Malaysia, Singapore and India. The carrier strike force could have covered a lot of operations in the Bay of Bengal while the army finished off the Brits. With your success in China, that would make it difficult for the allies in Burma/Bangladesh/India and you could perhaps have replicated your major land success.

As it stands, the armies will have to do the work themselves and the British should not have too much difficulty moving supplies from India to Burma by sea. They also have little to fear from any sea-based invasions/sorties into the Bay of Bengal as their LBAs should provide them with enough cover to deal with task forces without major carrier escorts.

My guess is that Dude got a bit lucky at Pearl Harbour when he lost zero carriers (I think Mogami lost 4 when he tried to take it). However, that luck ran out in NZ. That level of Japanese carrier loss is probably about right for such aggressive Japanese operations in the face of LBA and allied carriers. The British are weaker, so the losses might not be as substantial -- and the gains from Burma and India are a whole lot more than from NZ. You could secure one side of the map!

I am out of town right now, so on sunday night I will post my loses of major ships and give everyone a score update and plane loses and best pilots for me. Off the top of my head. I have lost every BB at PH and 2 more old ones. I have not lost any of the new ones. Pretty much think that is a ship was at PH it got sunk.
