So what is this about French fans mistaking Bucharest for Budapest? [8|]

warspite1

I've got to believe that story isn't quite as it seems. I mean really? But then......

Well, I thought that a lot of Americans were bad at geography. But maybe the French had a little too much or something with a similar effect.[;)]

I visited both cities (loved Budapest, Bucharest was rather meh...) It is ***very hard*** to mistake one for the other. Romanian has a lot in common with Italian (we can basically speak each one his own language and have a basic understanding of what we are saying) and "sounds" like Italian to a non Italian speaker. Hungarian, OTOH, is one of the hardest languages in the World (a mixture of Slavic, Finnish and Turkish I'm told). Also, the two cities are totally different. It would be like, for an American, mistake New York for Washington D.C. (or, better yet, Washington D.C. for Seattle, Washington...)

So, it was the French team that ended up visiting where these guys are staying. I would underline more this part of the story with my friends [:)]

Romania was settled by Roman Legionaries among other Roman citizens and that is where American pastrami gets its roots. So yes, they would speak a version of Latin.

With the Euro's on pause while squads nurse their wounds and massage their egos...

The 7 most and least valuable squads at Euro 2020...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13AdlxH1pQk

And yes, English players are seriously overvalued. That is caused by the stonking and insane wealth of the Premier League. It's why the EPL dominates the world of football.

Best wishes,
Steve

I think this video is very polite about Turkey. And I see it in also its youtube comments. Turkish league player fee is very overvalued against most European clubs such as in Portugal, Greece and many many other leagues in Europe. 10 million Euro given to national team only to play in UEFA European Championship 2020. And I see Turkish football coach salary hugely more than the Welsh team coach. Anyway at least EPL dominates the world of football even for overvalued players. Cheers.

So...

The Welsh Cawl take on the Danish Stegt flæsk.

And The Italian Ragu alla Bolengnese take on the Austrian Tafelpitz.

Tasty. Anyone care to make a predilection or two?

Come on Wales! You can do it!

Best wishes,
Steve

I predict that Italy, and Denmark, advance to the next stage. Although I suspect that Wales makes it into a close thing for Denmark. I think Austria will have little to get from Italy.

Mmmm.....

I think the Danes are a really bad draw for Wales. The Russians? The Finns? No problem. But Denmark? They played really well against Belgium and Russia and their record actually confirms they are a pretty good side.

Desperately hoping for a Welsh win but fearing the worst.

I can't believe how awful Austria were in their first two games, but in their last game they showed glimpses of promise. But I can't see Italy failing to overcome Alaba and co.

Wales 0-4 Denmark

British football summed up.

First 15 minutes - what they can do. Balls in behind, forward passes from midfield.

Rest of the game - What they usually do. Sideways, backwards, no invention, no ideas - Denmark's first goal showed what can be done by accurate, positive, forward passing that splits the midfield, then with a runner to receive a pass while driving forward. The second half was just ridiculous. There was a spell where the Welsh were passing side to side in their own half for about 3 minutes - they were 0-2 down at the time.......

In fairness, and as said earlier, Denmark are actually a pretty good side. But Wales were poor. There was a rumour Ramsey and James were playing in the second half.... right.

...oh and Spurs really need a new left back.....

Yea. That was not even close. Denmark had a comfortable match today. Wales looked clueless when they needed to build up their attack against a compact Danish defence.

Joakim Mæhle looked wonderful tonight. Along with a lot of other teammates, of course.

Edit: My Mæhle comment was a suggestion that perhaps Spurs should consider him as their new left back.

It sounds to me like that team should be called a designated driver since it appears that their play drives people to drink! [;)]

Soccer game kept woman away from condo wing that collapsed

SURFSIDE, Fla. (AP) — A soccer game may have saved Patricia Avilez’s life.

Avilez’s brother-in-law lives in a condo located in the wing of a 12-story beachfront condo building that collapsed in a town outside Miami early Thursday, killing at least one person.

When the brother-in-law isn’t there, Avilez routinely stops by to pick up the mail and make sure everything in the condo is in order.

“Last night I was thinking, “Let me go over there to sleep over night,” she said. “I was looking at the soccer game and I changed my mind and I stayed home.”

She said she woke up at 5:30 a.m. Thursday and headed over to the apartment. On the way, she heard on the radio about the collapse.

“And then I came here and it’s gone,” she said. “Everything is disaster.”

He is one good player.... sadly his performances in Euro 2020 mean that Spurs would have a 0% chance of signing him. I reckon some top, top clubs will be making enquiries.

Denmark are very tidy team and handled Wales quite comfortably. Nevertheless, I was a bit disappointed in the Welsh performance. They seemed devoid of ideas. Good experience for the Welsh lads though and now Denmark will face either the Netherlands or the Czech Republic. I wouldn't write them off in the quarter finals.

Best wishes,
Steve

Denmark's potential problem would appear to be a growing injury list to key players. But yes, on that showing (and that against the Russians and much of the match against Belgium), and assuming the injuries are not as bad as it would seem, I would back them over the Dutch or Czechs.

No.

I agree with that but if they are driving to a public house, consuming alcohol then driving home, that is in the not good category. It would be better if one individual with a valid driver's license stayed sober to drive the drunks home.

I believe it is more than experience more of a not well deserved prize for Welsh team to be playing last 16 teams in tournament.

Italy 2-1 Austria

The Austrians pushed the Italians to the end. This result perhaps says more about Italy than anything from the group stage.

They didn't play well in the second half but rode their luck a little and dug in to grind out the result. They have a lot of quality options on the bench too.

Yes, Italy are contenders for Euro 2020.

Unlucky Austria though.
