Hi im playing CHS right now as allies and im shocked i moved no units from India to Burma and my opponent landed in India... the one thing that i think is Rediculus is that lack of some static weak Def Bn. In most Bases in India!!!! my oponent is droping parts of Parachute units all around india and i can't help it as i need units to slow the jap advance and my supply is being cut bu some 0 or 1 AV units drop into empty bases... with i cant garrison as i do not have the necessary forces...[:(] and that i thik is rediculus!!!! so a suggestion to all designer add Weak immobile Def. Bn or something in every base in India!!!!! to cut this nonsense... [:@]
Hi Przemcio231,

I have thought about this very problem before, but this is the first post I have seen detailing it happening.

As a matter of fact, there were a lot of troops in India to guard against this very thing - but since they did not fight in Burma they were never included in the WitP list of units.

The solution (IMHO) is two fold, we can add signifigant Infantry to all the Base Forces in India (an easy fix), and or we can find a decent list of units that stayed in India during the war - and add them as Static Units (a little harder to find the info on).

What do you guys think?

B

I'd be cautious about this. As Oleg and Mogami point out there are certain things you should do as the allied player in India to prevent this tactic being too devestating. I don't think the loss of forts in bases you are unlikley to make a stand in anyway is much of a problem. And key bases like Karachi, Bombay, Dehli, Madras, Hydrabad etc should have ground forces in anyway so would be safe (as well as the Bengal / Bangladesh area). Right Prezmek? [;)]

If you give the allies lots of free infantry squads you just encourage some allied players to throw a few of their brigades or divisions in to Burma or SRA. As they are no longer needed to garisson the rear areas.

I think the Wobbly/PzB AAR made the allied players in general more 'honest' in this area. No longer would you see forces from India propping up Burma or Java. Or at least such forward defences became far more risky.

Anyway I hope you can defend India successfully. If you have not moved many LCUs you still have a great chance. The crucial bit is Karachi and the surrounding cities. If you can hold them then his invasion has failed. Most of his army (and a lot of his airforce) will be stuck in India when it is needed to fend off the US in the Pacific from late '42 onwards. So start pulling back, blast his para fragments out of the way and see if WitP less than steller overland supply rules can't stop him cold on the Indus [:)] Just think of all the mischief you will get up to in the Pacific while he only has the IJN (not the IJA) to oppose you [:D]

It certainly requires careful thought about what, if anything, to do.

In my opinion he moved (he has 30 units in Burma). My Dinah reported some new units in Burma.
But I give him 5 days (I stoped my offensive in India) and I withdrew my parachutes. I don't accept epmty bases in India but Nippon Army is undefead also without parachutes.

Hi, Err you don't need to garrison every base in India. You have tanks. Just deploy an entire tank unit in central postion and then squash para drops. Keep AA and fighters in important bases.

Burma does not need that much. If Japanese try to move through there they will take forever to crawl forward.
Guard your supply ports in India. Once the Japanese commit their forces to seaborne invasion move your central reserve directly into contact and force them into seige warfare. Keep a moble force to threaten Japanese supply if he moves off coast.

In Burma only 1 thing is important. That you maintain a connection with China (You keep a base that is in range for air transport) Use the Chinese units that begin assigned to SEAC for this.
Yes, that is all true. But I think the question was "aren't there signifigant troops in India that are missing from the OOB in the first place"? which would prevent a half dozen squads from capturing a city because you moved the airbase ground support personnel elsewhere...

B

To answer your question: The main problem with the Indian OOB in the game is that arraival times of units are mostly the dates when they were deployed in Burma. Most Indian divisions (or at least the battalions and/or brigades they were formed from) did already exist in Dec 1941, even if they were not well equipped or trained then (there were further delays with the deployment of troops to the Burma front because troops needed and received jungle training first). And there was always a shortage of arillery regiments, most artillery assets assigned to Indian divisons (including AT and AA) were British.

5th Indian Division arrived from Iraq/Persia in 1943. 7th Indian Division was busy fighting rebels in Sind (near Karachi) in 1941/42 (called Upper Sind Force then).

About 40 battalions were always (1939-45) stationed in the tribal areas at the NW frontier (sometimes more, sometimes less; about 40 battalions at the average; many Nepalese battalions served there for most of the war).

However, the game includes two Indian divisions (appearing late) that did not exist or at least did not exist the way they're represented in the game (3rd Indian Division was the HQ for the various Special Forces = Chindits, it should not be in the game, instead there should be 77th and 111th Indian Chindit brigades; 44th Indian Division served as HQ for various forces, first as HQ for a Indian Tank Division, later as HQ for the airborne forces).

But Mogami ist still correct with his mobile force strategy, to a certain extend this was the plan of the GHQ India in real life.

You're giving him far more credit than he deserves IMO. Anyone who commits 30 units to Burma (or fails to evacuate them on time - same thing) deserves to be raped in India.

Well you moved them from one prison camp to another - how about moving them to India proper, and earlier, next time? Or using them in "Festung Malaya" to delay Japanese advance?
