BOB 1941 - 1 week - TEST AAR

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Here's a shot fo the confused chaos of battle. The first wave of enemy raids has hit Biggin Hill and Kenley and you can see the follow up raids coming in to hit Redhill, Gravesend and Biggin Hill again.

A couple of He's and Italian G50's have been shot down for the loss of a couple of Hurris and Spits...........

A detailed shot of the returning first/second wave of raids.

The melee has been tough so far with a mixture of Spits and Hurris falling to the marauding 109's.............on the flip side a mixture of Italian G50's, Mc200's, SM79's, German He's, Ju's and 109's have hit dirt too.................

The Hurri's had a good run on MC200's......................in the space of 8 minutes they shot down 3 of them and damaged 2 more for the loss of 1 and 1 damaged.

Phase 3 of the LW raids hits East Anglia with Coltishall receiving moderate damage, even Wittering is hit as well as Duxford.

The LW approach is clearly to stretch the RAF into fighting in too many places at one time with tired pilots. My boys have fought well though............

A heavy day of sustained combat.

The LW attacks have caused heavy damage to some key Sector airfields but some remain open for business and the LW has taken a bloody nose today as well as the RAF...........

Is this test also used for balancing?
I was thinking about the performance of the Italians, they had a hard time in 1940 especially because of the weather conditions.
Is there performance maybe too good?

One other thing is, is it overall likely that the Italians are still in the theater in 41?
With all the trouble they had in 40 and there attacks in Albania and Egypt I would think that there presence is very unlikely.

well, since BoB41 is a what if, there are many areas of what if we can work with, also, IF the ITs were to send units to help with the final attack on England, they would be sending there best

which, with this game as in others, good units can get slaughtered, and bad units can hammer, all depends on what happens, in the long run, a good unit should be good and a bad unit bad, but things can happen which change the odds

but, the basic idea, is some of the dicey things that could of gone wrong in the early war, did, and so, the Desert is either a stalemate or a good thing for the ITs, so the ITs are free to try and help out there "friends"

one on one, the 2 main IT fighters here are not a match for the GB planes

also, in 1940, they didn't get there until late Oct, the weather was pretty bad for everybody, in BoB41 is spring and everything is fair game

Speedy,

I always play with plane icons showing and not the box icons as in your screen shots.

Apart from having to show the box icons for tactical explanation purposes do you ever use actual plane icons whilst playing or do you see any merit in the revised game perhaps only having box representation of planes as in the screen shots.

Hi David

from part of your question, I thought I should say, the game is set up, where you can play with either the lines and boxes or with the plane , most of the old timers, I think play with the boxes, you just pick up more info at a glance with the line and box, but for the people who want planes, they will be able to use those also

which for AARs and such, I think the line and box is better to show what is going on (but that is just me)

I'm still not sure about the Italians.

Take quick look here that is quite comprehensive:
http://www.comandosupremo.com/1940.html

In June East Africa, in September Egypt, in October Albania.
Looks to me that they have plenty to do.

And by December everything comes down, the Italians ask for assistance in Greece and are pushed back in Egypt and East Africa is also slowly turning against them.
By this time I don't thing much support directly from the UK had arrived in Egypt and Greece.
So even with The Blitz going on strongly and troops size raising in France the Italians were in trouble on all fronts.
Maybe so bad that the Germans have to send direct support and create the Africa Korps.
Even if you say that there is only a stalemate then the performance of the Italians and there high losses would have forced them to bring the units back for R&R and then I'm sure they would have been sent to Greece/Egypt or even East Africa.
Also what about airfield capacity, do we have more airfields in 41?

BTW what German units are missing?
Are the air units that were sent to Italy, the Balkan and Russia out of the game or are the all there?
If they're gone then the Italians should also go because situations seems bad and if not then they should go anyway because without direct German assistance there is even more need for Italian units on there own fronts.

well, again

this is a what if, it is not based on what was going on in 1941 (I mean, to be honest, to have any type of BoB41, you have to really change most of history to start with)

most of the LW that was in the West in 1940, is still there in 41

a number of Desert CW Squadrons are in England

units that were to be sent to the Desert have been kept in England for the battle

if you want a historcal OOB, stick with BoB40 or BTR43/44, BoB41 is a what if

Probably just a Typo: Martlet MK I
As you use no Mark designation on other types it may look better if you only use Martlet I (or at least Martlet Mk I).

Another possible typo: 804 Squadron F. A. A.
I don't know how official this site is but it uses FAA
http://www.fleetairarmarchive.net/Squad ... drons.html
WitE dev team - (aircraft data)
WitE 1.08+ dev team (data/scenario maintainer)
WitW dev team (aircraft data, partial data/scenario maintainer)
WitE2 dev team (aircraft data)

LOL

see that is part of the hassle and fun of this

I have already been told I need to add the MK to the name

also, been told that FAA should be F.A.A.

(nice site by the way, bookmarked it for morelooking)
