Dan--I freaked out when I saw you on the site and then realized it was the new AAR!  I'm a little jumpy over life issues...  You have done so well in this Mod attacking me in this area, what do you think is possible?  I really want to try to force the Allies back to that line shown above so we can grab the resources, oil, heavy industry, and manpower benefits....

I haven't read all the posts after this one, so this may have been answered already or you may have moved on to other plans.

As an Allied player, I would hate to try to defend India against a major attack early in the game without major assistance from the Chinese. If I was the Japanese player and managed to prevent the Chinese from lending a hand, I would probably make India my main focus of the game in hopes of taking the sub-continent and thereby putting the Allies in a tough position on that half of the map. This is assuming my opponents weren't able to reinforce through other weird means such as that little trick that allows players to transfer units from the West Coast of USA to Aden. That would make my idea much less attractive.

If the Japs are going to seize territory that will really put the Allies in a tough way and perhaps threaten an auto-victory, it seems like India, Australia, and Hawaii are the only three viable options, and only the first two of those offer the Japanese alot of resources. Q-Ball is correct in his notes that the only way the Japs can win in this game is via auto-victory. So, do you intend to win by auto-victory? If so, I think you've got to go for Australia or India with everything you have and count on the KB to punish any American efforts in the Pacific while you make your effort.

Speedy did a great job of invading India late (after May '42) and put Admiral Dadman on the defensive in a nip-and-tuck battle, so you would seemingly have a more forgiving timetable than he did. Assuming that you take Singapore in a reasonable time and that the Allies can't load up Aden with USA units as noted above.

Good luck! Have fun!

Guys,

so you don't think I'm giving advice or opinions on your game - below is what I just posted on your enemy's AAR:

Just for the record -
I know some folks don't care for after action summaries in AAR's, but for people like me who like seeing how the combats go - I thank you.

I like to see the results of combats so I can judge what kind of results the mod produces(as seen below).
To see 38 fighters and 93 bombers mix it up, with the loss of only four fighters and a few bombers lost total tells me I'm on the right track (since the entire goal of the mod was to get results realistic).

Thanks
B

Brian,

I ALWAYS like to see you on the AAR and welcome your thoughts whenever.  You know how much I hate the endless screens of combat reports!  I like an AAR where strategy, tactics, and review of the action takes place.  That doesn't mean the route is wrong it just is a different way to do it.  Please feel free to jump in and contribute whenever you want Sir!

Dan,

Your points are excellent.  Q-Ball--what do you think of his thoughts?  I really like th eidea of going FULL BORE in India to see how far we can go.  I KNOW I can keep the US Fleet occupied without issue (knock wood!) for at least a year of time.  If we cannot do it then we stage a fighting withdrawal to a solid defensible line and hold for as long as we can.

Thanks John,

I'm not criticizing your AAR, far from it - I was just showing you that I'm not giving advice, and I always found the combat results helpful in judging if I had done the right things.[;)]

Good luck!

I thoroughly understand that.  I would LOVE for you to look at some things from mid-April 1944 where I am getting kicked even with good aircraft and pilots!  [:@][:@][:@]  I guess that is SUPPOSED to happen at that stage anyway...

I advocate going all-out in India. We either win or lose in 1942. That's it. May as well go guns blazing. The reality is that when AE comes out, and the first couple patches, all 4 of us may want to move to THAT game. For that reason, let's resolve early.

If LASHIO would block the Chinese, we must do it. Keeping the Chinese out of India would kill India; Dan is right. KB could keep the Americans at bay. We need every division though commmitted to India, even if that slows us down in the DEI and elsewhere.

Restart

Post by John 3rd »

I just proposed we do a restart in case this problem is somewhat serious.  With the map issue, should we simply do a restart of the campaign?  We are only a few days into things so this would NOT be a crisis.  I kept our opening move saved so it could be very fast.

Just a thought.

As to Brad's comment about going all-out in India I say WHY NOT!  I've never tried it so lets do it.  It'll break new ground and sure be exciting!

Restart

Post by John 3rd »

The decision has been made--due to the map issue with installing the Mod--to conduct a restart of the campaign.  Michael has asked to bow out due to format issues with running a 2x2 and I have extended to Dan Roper for filling in with Paul Layne.

The nice thing in doing this would be to correct some issues both sides had with their beginning moves.  Additionally just figuring out the logistics of moving the turns from player-to-player has taken a bit of time too.

Brad and I are already re-working our opening so once we have the second half of the Allied side we can start immediately!
