So was the Battle of Midway. How many Japanese Players would hang around after a historical result such as that in June 1942? Or would the Allied Player be just like the real Japanese Army and not even hear about the defeat?

Not saying this couldn't have happened if you had more escorts but It looks like the the TFs are much too weak on ASW.
Picture it, you're a destroyer captian charged with protection of CA's CL's and CV's that's a tall order for 5 DD's

I've seen Saratoga torpedoed just two hexes out of Brisbane while escorted by 4 DD's (she survived, out for 3 months), three of my S boats sank Kaga after hitting her with six torpedoes (two each), Yamato torpedoed by a fleet boat off of Milne Bay, three tankers out of 4 torpedoed and sunk off of LA (that hurt), one of my Dutch subs torpedoed a heavy cruiser off of Timor, and had a fleet sub torpedoed by an I-boat outside of Townsville harbor.

For some reason I don't find any of those particularly outrageous or reason to throw my hands up and claim the game was unplayable.

I have no issues with these results. I would only have issues if it had happened to ME!!! If it had happened to me then obviously the game is borked.[:D]

Was that a pbem game or against the ai and what years are we speaking of? My subs aren't hitting anything. When they do its a DUD. [:D](allied player-pbem)

Most of those attacks took place in 1942, against the AI.  My S boats especially were effective; the fleet boats not so much, although now that I'm in early 1943, they are getting a lot more hits.

Personally I don't see how a sub can get away with 3 attacks on a Carrier, sink it, and not get murdered by the rest of the fleet, half of which are Destroyers. That sub shouldn't have even escaped. Obviously the crews of these ships are less than desirable.

It wasn't 1 sub making 3 attacks. It was 3 subs making 5 attacks. And there were 12 ships in the TF, only 5 were DDs.

For a historical example of how this result is possible: after the battle of Midway, the damaged CV Yorktown had an escort of 7 DDs. One sub, I-168, attacked and sank both Yorktown and DD Hammann, and got away without any damage.

Dont forget theres some factors...

Not ALL DD's have ASW capability... when create an ASW TF you will note not all can be used...those were DD's with bigger guns
and other stuff for surface/air defense.

Also in AE, Dd's have to reload DC's.. if a TF moving comes under several
sub attks as it moves...the DD's in the TF may drop to zero DC load and so be unable to do ASW

Simply dropping in a Ports not going reload the ship, has to be with supply, and a port size and/or in port disbanded a tender..

Theres no  unlimited supply of DC's for Dd's to use vlike while escorting an TF from say Sanf to Australia.

For a historical example of how this result is possible: after the battle of Midway, the damaged CV Yorktown had an escort of 7 DDs. One sub, I-168, attacked and sank both Yorktown and DD Hammann, and got away without any damage.

Actually, I-168 was severely damaged by the counterattacks of the US destroyers and just barely made an escape. During the counterattack Tanabe managed to put a bit of space between himself and the still floating Yorktown. With a flooded torpedo room and a leaking manuvering room he resolved to surface to fight it out as best he might but the DDs didn't see him right off as they had returned to screen the Yorktown rather than pressing home their attacks. Emergency repairs were quickly made to allow him to submerge again and he made good his escape.
