RAF P-47s sweep the skies over Toungoo again finding no one there to play.
A Chinese unit is seen on the trails heading towards Taung Gyi from Lashio so some Helens are sent to say hi. The 75th Chinese/C Corp takes mild losses from the 100+ Helen visit.
SRA:

Surface Action off Ramree Island !!! I snuck a pair of BBs and escorts up from Singapore but they had 2/2 recon on them last turn but I sent them to Ramree anyways. We ran right into a heavy RN TF and they got the drop on us initially due to better radar it looks like. The fight wasn't much of a slugfest as I thought it would have been and my torpedo attacks were nearly useless even though we closed range to 3,000 yards... In the fight its hard to say who won - pretty even.

After the naval fight - and the RN force withdrew leaving me at Ramree by myself, the RAF showed up. I was expecting this and had 100+ fighters assigned to LR CAP over the TF but at best 15 or so showed up at any one time... The RAF Strikes were escorted by high flying P-38s which beat on my CAP and the B-25s flew in low hammering my ships with gunfire and 500# bombs. After multiple strikes in the morning and afternoon, CA Mikuma and DD Daitei were sunk.
BBs Minowara and Yoshi absorbed a lot of gunfire and bomb hits but their damage is not that bad - but being big BBs they will take a couple months in Singapore to repair it all. I will probably lose 1 more DD escaping - it has 30 fire and we all know how well IJN fire control is... Everything else should escape unless we run over a sub or the ships don't get out of air strike range.
My Helens paid another visit to the 75th Chinese/C Corp inflicting 200 or so losses on them on the jungle trails.

Welcome to September !!
Sub Warfare:
My fleeing ships from Ramree encountered a pair of subs. The first, SS KVII fired two torpedoes at DD Hatakaze but missed. The second, SS KXII, is sighted by my escorts and attacked before it could launch. One confirmed hit and another near miss may be enough to send that sucker home for repairs.
Burma:
My Helens paid a visit to two Chinese Corps east of Mandalay inflicting minor damage to them.
My fleeting ships outdistanced the attacking RAF aircraft, but Nomad struck at Rangoon while I was protecting my fleeing ships. P-47D2s swept the few Sams I had on CAP over Rangoon and then every RAF bomber unit in the theater came to pay a visit. Roughly 100 aircraft (mostly fighters) were destroyed on the ground as the RAF plastered Rangoons level 9 AF closing it in one day. Service damage is at 100 and runways are at 74. I was quite disappointed by the 5 or so AA units at Rangoon that seemingly did nothing - despite the RAF bombers coming in low.
If that wasn't bad enough, RN CVs moved just north of Andaman Island and caught my fleeing TF. Dive and Torpedo bombers escorted by Corsairs blew through my CAP and landed 14 torpedoes upon 4 ships. DD Kagero caught a torpedo and sunk. BB Minowara caught 7 torpedoes and 6 1000# bombs and sunk. BB Yoshi and was hit by 6 bombs and 3 torpedoes. CA Mogami was hit by 1 bomb and 3 torpedoes. After the combat the Mogami sunk and odds are Yoshi will not make Rangoon due to damage - let alone the RN CVs are 150 miles west and well within range to launch another strike and I have nothing in the area for air defense.
I should have know I would lose the whole force - every time I try to be aggressive in this game I get smacked around. I'm sure its something I'm doing wrong - as many Japanese players are very aggressive and seem to always get lucky....

Heavy RAF fighter sweeps over Rangoon paving the way for the heavy bombers. The heavies came in plastering the airfields again and a little damage to the port. My engineers there are working hard trying to keep the runways working, but damage is now 100% service, 75% runways and 12% port. No aircraft was destroyed on the field as I moved them all out of Rangoon after the initial attack.
The RN Carrier Force moved southeast into the Andaman Sea and finished off the crippled DD and BB. The rest of the force sprinted south at full speed to escape.

Chinese bombers hit my fleeing troops in the jungle sw of Lashio.
RAF pounded Rangoon for the third day in a row, targetting the airfields with a few hits on the port. My engineers are keeping up with the new damage, but it will still take them a week or more to put everything back to working order once the RAF stop.
The RN CVs hang out in the Andaman Sea - I have two single ship TFs at Rangoon that they don't seem to want to hit. Which is fine by me - just one of those things about the AI where it won't target single ship TFs very often for carrier ops - which is not good... With nothing else in range, they should hit any target they can.
China:
I moved some Sallies into China from Manchuria for some on the job training and they attacked two Chinese Corps near Ningsia inflicting 200+ losses.

RAF pounded Rangoon for the fourth day in a row, targeting the airfields with a few hits on the port.
RAF Bombers hit my troops at Prome - in what I can only guess is a softening up manuver before the British horde crosses the river. Not many casualties but disruption is high.
The RN CVs have disappeared. I saw some reports of my TFs are Rangoon being spotted but since I pulled my NavSearch I don't have eyes on the RN Carrier TF. Once the planes get set back up in their new home I will get eyes on them again.

Heavy RAF Fighter sweeps over Rangoon and Prome still clearing the way for the bombers hitting troops at Prome in what is definitely a preparation for the British horde crossing the river - recon shows they are on the move. Bombers hit Rangoon airfield and port. My AA at Rangoon is damaging roughly 10 or so bombers each day and actually getting a couple kills other than Ops losses.
I moved a Nav Guard east of Taung Gyi to check the river crossing and we found a Chinese unit sitting 2 hexes east of the river. The Nav Guard is on the east side of the river when we spotted it. Helens have been tasked to hit this unit and reveals it is the 54th Chinese/A Corps. This unit is far from any friendly bases so I will continue to hit them every turn unless I have a better target.
China:
My bombers continue to hit some Chinese troops as they chase my troops out of Northern China.
SRA:
USAAF bombers continue to strike at my isolated troops in the jungle west of Aitape. As before only the B-25s on strafe missions seem to be causing any damage.

The allies auto-capture Sarmi this turn. The Fast Transport TF is not spotted by recon, so I think it fled the area.
A line of enemy subs is forming south of Babeldaob in what has been a typical move by Nomad to begin blocking off an area he plans on invading. There are a couple dot bases there and then Sorong which has been built up to level 3 port, level 4 airfield and level 6 forts. Should he drop off more than 2 divisions of troops I probably can't hold as I only have roughly 1 division of troops at the base. But he may invade one of the dot bases to the east and use that to build up a size 4 or 5 airfield to contest the skies -- otherwise he has to bring his CVs here.

That is most likely a devastated Brigade. It will take a while for it to recover from that beating. This frees the rail up again so troops can flee from the northern bases to the south.
China:
My Sallies beat on two Chinese Corps near Dalan Dzadagad again inflicting 92 casualties.
SRA:
USAAF bombers attack my isolated troops in the jungle west of Aitape inflicting some losses.

Heavy fighter sweeps over Toungoo followed by all the bombers - by all the bombers I mean the following:
Wellington Ic x 111
B-25B Mitchell x 51
B-25C Mitchell x 60
Liberator II x 16
B-17F Fortress x 9
B-24D Liberator x 38
B-24D1 Liberator x 24
B-25D1 Mitchell x 10
Not sure, but this maybe every bomber in Burma / India within range - thats a lot of bombers. The hit the airfield a little bit but mostly concentrated on troops. With level 6 forts and +2 for jungle, they dropped a lot of bombs but did little damage. The airfield took some damage, but it is single digits.
I swept the skies over Prome with some Sams and got mauled by high-flying Spitfire Vcs and P-47D25s.
British armor, backed up with Chinese Troops, crossed the river and captured Mandalay from the Thai unit holding it.
China:
My Sallies hit the Chinese again inflicting 283 casualties.
SRA:
USAAF continues to bomb my trapped troops in the jungle, slowly wearing them down.
I sent some CVs into the area around Sarmi looking for some allied shipping but everything has withdraw back at least to Hollandia.

I haven't posted for a few days and the turns have been slow - Holidays are busy times. Not a whole lot happened over the past few turns so I will pick up with the turn I just sent back to Nomad.
Sub Warfare:
Lots of it this turn.
My PB ASW TF locates SS Cisco but fails to attack.
SS Growler launches 4 torpedoes at TK Yamazuru Maru, hitting with one sinking her. Luckily she was empty heading to Sorong for some oil.
My Minelayer TF heading back to Babeldaob runs over SS Sailfish and the escorts report 5 hits - including one direct hit.
SS Whale fires 2 torpedoes at an IJN SC, hitting with one sinking the SC.
SS Balao fires 2 torpedoes at an IJN ASW PB, hitting with one sinking the ship.
Truk:
A lot happened here this turn. First action was allied ships arriving and DD Balch hitting one of my mines. Not sure if the DD sunk or not, but later they were spotted with an escort heading back to Ponape -- its a long way for mine damage on such a small ship.
The US Bombardment TF arrives at Truk and heads in to bombard, not noticing the horde of midget subs waiting there !! SSX Ha-16 sneaks in close and launches all of her torpedoes, hitting BB Maryland with both setting her on fire !! Unfortunately the escorts hammer the midget sub sending her to the bottom -- well worth it.
Another Midget fires at DD Balch missing the crippled ship. Balch's escort sinks SSX Ha-10.
The allied TF finally closes in to Truk and bombards inflicting light losses. Truk Naval Fortress returns fire landing 2 hits on BB Pennsylvania and 2 on BB Oklahoma - but no evident damage.
On their way out of Truk harbor, BB Maryland is caught by SSX Ha-23 and two more torpedoes are slammed into the side of the enemy capital ship. Unfortunately the Maryland's escort sinks Ha-23.
Ha-21 tries to close in to the fleeing allied TF but is spotted and sunk by escorts.
Near Ponape, the allied bombardment TF runs over SS I-170. The IJN subs launches 4 torpedoes at BB Oklahoma, hitting with 3 of them !!! I-170 then escapes unharmed.
As the crippled Oklahoma tries to make it back to Ponape, I-170 catches her again and hits with 3 more torpedoes. This time I-170 takes minor damage while escaping. I did hear sinking noises after this attack so I think BB Oklahoma is gone.
US heavy bombers strike Truk airfield inflicting minor damage.
Burma:
Heavy RAF Fighter sweeps over Toungoo paves the way for large numbers of bombers hitting the airfield and troops there. The airfield is hit hard, but between the forts and the jungle very little troops are wounded.
China:
My Sallies and some old Idas strike a cutoff Chinese Corps inflicting decent damage.
So overall we lost a handful of midget subs, but possibly sunk 2 old US BBs.

Bay of Bengal:
I slipped a CV TF into the bay - it just moved north from south of Andaman Island this turn and ended up 3 hexes from the RN CV TF !!! As normal, the allies launched first - but they ran straight into a wall of 5c Zeros and Sams... Only 8 bombers made it through and they all missed.
In the afternoon the RN launched what they had left and no bombers made it through my CAP. So where were my launches ??? Nothing... Nadda... Zip... So when the turn was over I checked and all my bombers - and some fighters - were all stood down and in training mode
They must have been accidently set that way before they left Singapore - I must have hit the 'Set All' button instead of whatever I was trying to do. Once more I screw up something and waste a great chance to sink multiple RN capital ships - recon reports multiple CV and CVEs, along with several BBs in the RN TF and me sitting with over 200 bombers capable a sinking them all -- Jills and Judys (with 800 kg bombs). Only good thing is I completely mauled his bomber force and his CVs will need to run away -- if I guess correctly I can maybe catch them next turn.
