I am ready. So if it is ok for Giacomo to take command of West, just send me the turn. The Russian bear is awaken ...

@ 82ndtrooper:

Thanks for the resume of the game and the good and bad critics. Really good work.

You are right saying there had been a few mistakes I made. Some I realized myself - but mostly when it was too late [;)], others I see now as you clearly pointed out where things went wrong. Moving my fleet too far away from harbours for example to attack the supply center in India and getting cut of on the way back was really a big mistake. And you are right that I did not realize early enough that my ships needed to be supplied in a harbour.

Another mistake I made was to loose the action cards out of sight during the last turns. Partisan activity was not started as well as the end-of-war card to stop Russia I did not use. Partisan activity might have helped me to capture some islands, but I should have played this card early. As soon as you got some defenders in the right places the partisans are unable to do more than keeping the West busy with small attacks.

Concerning the war with China I got the advice to build mortars and guns, what I already was doing. So I think I have had the right strategy there. But I was not aggressive enough and maybe overestimated the defenders bonus in the mountains, which made me wait with attacks til I got enough units to attack from three sides - which is only possible at few positions and does not enable me to conquer more than one hex.

Finally: Thanks @ all for the game. I have done some pbems in larger groups now. Only two games are still running. All others ended suddenly because someone got to busy at work and had to quit or turns were not send for no obvious reason. In this game I was the one to quit, but I think we had come to a point where it made sense to give up and declare West and Russia as winners. But up to this end all were very enthusiastic and this was the fun side of this game. [:)]

Usually Russia plays China, since it's definately not fun alone.

Poland is occupied, but the Germans have not played the blitz card yet. All's quiet on the western front. Preparation are in progress on both sides. Planning and preparation is eight-tenths of strategy, they say. But they also say no plan survives the first engagement. Seems like a contradiction, but it's not really.

Sorry everyone, It was the German side's abyssmal strategic decisions that caused the problem. Please see this post for an explanation. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2084652
