Stop whinning kids. Just tell me how many of you have christmas in mid-summer? [:D] Your whinning will not help the game to go gold... use your vacations for your families, girlfriends, kids - you know later there will be no time for that [8|]

I have spoken to at least one beta who said the game was damn close to being done (and that was six months or more ago) That's a delay.

The last mile always takes the longest. We can be "mostly done" and still not be totally done. I think of this project has having had 1000 theads of activity. Six months ago maybe 850 of them were done. One month ago maybe 970 of them were done - but for example getting the Allied AI to work on in to late 44 and early 45 has been a recent focus - this wasn't a priority 6 months ago - hecque it wasn't even on the radar screen six months ago.

There are threads that still need a bit more time - in my opinion - but we are definitely making progress and closing down activity threads weekly. Believe it or not - we are still waiting for art from multiple folks - I never would've guessed that art would've been a bottleneck - but if I'm worried about anything at this point it is actually making sure the art is 100% done on time. The art has been "almost done" for 15 months - but - it still is not totally done.

Just to clear one thing up, this is not a similar situation to a year ago, months ago, whatever. We are in the final push to release and delays will not be measured in months, but rather in weeks or days.

Well..that last comment would surely cause coitus interruptus![&o]

I get that. I am certainly not whining about a product that will no doubt be on my various hard drives for years to come. I think the comment that this giant sized game that you guys have been grinding away at for years was going to be held up yet again for printer issues. (And two or three more weeks means two or three less weeks I get to toy with it before my summer ends [8D]) To me that borders on insanity, since whether or not we have a hot looking manual in our hands we are purchasing the game for the software not the book that comes with it. I said I would go back to my tiny little empire (where my opponent is about to begin the great pacific crusade) and say no more and I won't. As I said before, whenever this finally gets out the door, this summer or this christmas, I have little doubt that like the lemming I am my credit card will be in hand [&o]

I think it speaks well for Witp, Matrix and the people working on AE that there are so many guys chomping at the bit to get this game. I don't see devotion like this most days in my every day life, that's for sure! And I'm looking forward to the game and the manual, whenever they are ready.

Basically when the original WiTp was close to release people also got a wee bit anxious.

I think a few poster will need to get their xanax prescriptions refilled to get through the next few weeks. [:D]
For those who don't know, xanax is an anti-anxiety medication.

It's important that the most important part of the allied AI be taken care of.

Well, please don't drop DR. I'm a big fan of your products, in large part because there is no annoying DRM schemes in the downloaded product.

And, btw, my wife will be scheduling the birth/induction of your second child on June 22. I think I'll need a product by about the 25th to give me something to do while I do my time watching her. Conquest of the Aegean served me well for the 1st kid.

No pressure . . .

Ouch!
Two years of AI to complete and artwork still not complete, this makes it sound like a June release is already all but dead!

Take another month or two if you must, I for one want a finished product, too many games are released unfinished and unpolished!

Ok, here's the latest update. We ran into some real problems with the new printer we're using for this - unfortunately there was no other option budget-wise for a 330+ page color manual. We've worked through them, but the net result was much more time in the "proof" process than expected, which means late June is looking unlikely and early July is looking more definite. We very much want this to be a synchronized release, so we will not be releasing the download version early. Instead, we'll use the time after Gold (not there yet) to allow the team to keep testing the gold master get a head start on the first update.

- Erik

Good grief, folks. Please do not jump to conclusions.

Joe was talking about _as recently as six months ago_. Six months is a long time, please re-read his quote. We are at this point missing an extremely tiny percentage of the final artwork, which is being finished up this week or next and the AI is well past the normal design and testing stage and into fine-tuning and tweaking, which will continue until release.

I understand everyone wants this to be great, so do we. Will there be things to fix or tweak after release? Yes, undoubtedly, just like with original WITP. You can't make a game of this complexity completely perfect - when all of you see it, I'm sure you'll spot some things we missed. But we will not be releasing anything that's unfinished or untested.

With that said, I'm not going to comment further on the release schedule until we have a more definite date. I think that overall I've said more than enough. [;)]

Regards,

- Erik

Maybe you need to re-read the post, the following was stated!!!

1. The Art work is still not done after 15 months.
2. The Allied AI for years 1944 & 1945 is not complete and/or working as they want yet!

So when it's released we'll have our crack at it. We've waited this long and there's light at the end of the tunnel. That's good enough for me. DROOL!

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

I think it may read that way if you're looking for concerns. I don't think Joe intended it that way and I know from the project itself that the Allied AI for 1944 and 1945 is working and the art work is 99.99% complete.

With that said, there is always a whole list of loose ends we still need to tie up to go gold and testing and tweaking and tuning continues up until that point.
