The only Stephen King book that I've read is The Stand. It was the only halfway decent book for sale at an airport when I still had many more hours of traveling on a business trip and nothing left to read. I did finish it because it was compelling. BUT, I concluded 'why put myself through that?' and resolved to read no more of his work. His talent was obvious. In fact I would say (if his other works are similar) that he writes movies. Of course many of his works have been put to the screen, but I mean his extraordinary attention to making vivid descriptions. I understand that he has quite a large following.

I couldn't listen to more than 3 minutes of the 8 minute something video. He spent the first two minutes explaining how unfairly he was being treated and singled out because he had to stand and answer questions on the fly at this convention and *gasp* had trouble with email correspondence because of a a bum email address. Must be a conspiracy to suppress his point of view.

He did (eventually) field a question from a reader (that he identified by name!) from "Above Top Secret.com" that questioned the efficacy of the baloon bombs. What followed was a diatribe of rehashed allegations without any physical proof, naturally.

I *am* heartened by him calling out individual blog members to 'answer' their allegations. I would feel personally made whole if, in one of his schizophrenic diatribes, he specifically answered one of my blog quotes / questions.

Here would be the quote that I would like him to address: "Did the transnational illuminati control *both* the baloon bombs and the Soviet undead legions or was their role more in the cover up?" Please remember to cite "Chickenboy" for this insightful query. [&o]

Hoagland at least has some theories based in some sort of observation of the real world.  His conclusions may be whacked, but he does start with something that is observable and anchored in consensus reality.

I don't give him the highest probability he's right in any of his theories, but some accepted science today came from scientists who everyone thought was crazy at the time.  The theory of plate tectonics which is universally accepted in Geology today was originally formulated by a guy so eccentric, his favorite snack was mouse on toast.  He was completely discredited in his time and by the time the hard evidence of plate tectonics started coming in during the 1950s, he had been a footnote as a crazy of Geology for 100 years. 

Though for every crazy who is right, there are probably 99 who are just people with crazy theories that go nowhere.

I put Hoagland and Dietrich in completely different classes.  Dietrich does nothing to back up his claims and he makes extrodinary claims about history that is still in living memory.  Almost all of us have a father or grandfather who fought in that war and we've heard the stories first hand.  A lot of what he claims runs contrary to millions of first hand accounts, which IMO, dramatically lowers the credibility.  Plus the "science" he claims has no observable evidence.

Hoagland can point to data that most scientists agree is valid data.  The conclusions he draws from that evidence is very unorthodox, but at least he starts with something we agree exists.  For example his famous claim about the face on Mars.  That picture exists.  It's probably a trick of the light, but we can all look at the official NASA photograph and agree that it looks like a face on Mars.  Just agreeing what it looks like, doesn't make it that.  All we're agreeing is that the pattern looks familiar to the human eye.
