Turn 18 - 10th May 1940

In China the intensity of Japanese pressure against Chengchow and Changsha ramps up Significantly. Japanese forces in the far north appear to have moved away - if only temporarily - and Japanese carrier aircraft are pummelling Chinese forces in advance of attacks by the army. 41st and 42nd Armies are hit hard east of Chengchow, and II Corps suffers casualties to the north of Changsha. The only good news is that the Japanese are taking losses too and unless they have reserves, I am hoping they will need some R+R.

Turn 19 - 24th May 1940

The British get reinforcements in the form of a DD and a fighter unit. Two Indian Garrisons also arrive.

The French get a tank unit.

The US get to Logistics Level 1.

I really want to save with the Chinese so that I can buy an Army for the southern area. However I have to ensure that all units are at full strength to meet the Japanese challenge.

I bring back the Chinese fighters, now re-built, and place them in Chungking where hopefully they can provide some level of cover for both the cities under threat.

After reinforcement I have 168MPP left. If I can get a relatively quiet turn next, I may be in a position to buy an Army.

One thing I am considering is attacking the Japanese 3rd Army, which is in contact with two of my armies and two corps south of Chengchow. I decide to hold off until I get my next advance in Infantry Weapons (66% toward the total) as one bad defeat could open the door to the Japanese.

Once again I press the wrong button (switching between screens is deadly if you forget that you've highlighted a unit already) and 'attack' with XII Corps [8|]. I was right not to risk attacking with the Chinese as XII Corps receives a bloody nose and inflicts no loss on the enemy....

Post this picture XII Corps loses two points after the accidental attack. It moves away and CXXX Corps in IChang moves north to cover - leaving the city unguarded.

Turn 17 - 12th April 1940

The US get a CV and destroyer - both of which go to the Pacific.

The French get an HQ

But first, let's see what that development in China is all about. It looks like a Chinese Warlord or some such has proclaimed his own state!

There don't seem to be any units with this territory but let's hope the Japanese take some time to suppress the revolt. The Japanese have been using their carrier aircraft to add to Chinese losses but - apart from the expected loss of one corps - these have been manageable this turn.

I move no units this turn but am able to bring all up to strength.

Turn 19 - 24th May 1940

Time to look at the navy next. Firstly here at the current convoy routes (and the MPP being transported) that the Allies need to protect. The US to UK and UK to USSR lines are not yet active (in white).

Turn 19 - 24th May 1940

What do the British have to defend these and meet their other tasks with?

The forces look distinctly unbalanced - I don't like the lack of destroyers available. There is only one destroyer counter on the reinforcements track - and that is not until Sep/Oct.....

The plan will be to utilise the French Navy as much as possible in the short time it has left.

Turn 19 - 24th May 1940

I decide to evacuate the RN from Malta and bring the Mediterranean Fleet together off Alexandria.

I also move the army in Egypt behind the Nile.

In France I bring the two remaining British Corps behind the Somme.

I purchase an Army to replace the lost BEF.

With the French its a case of bringing what I can up to strength and hoping.

With the British moving behind the Somme the French retreat also. The hinge of the defence falls on 3rd Army south of the Luxembourg border... I hope this move will help as the Germans mostly will need to move before attacking.

The French fleet will concentrate in the Mediterranean.

My main game is WitPAE to which I am addicted and I'm also posting on my Sicily game on TOAWIV. I'm thinking I'll try a crusader scenario next there since it's such a whirling crazy battle. But, I"m liking this game and may plunk down a few shekels to pick it up!

Turn 19 - 24th May 1940

The US Research Production Technology and Industrial Technology. I have no idea when to start switching to production and what to buy navy wise - but I'll just go with gut feel and see what happens...

I do nothing with the Soviets.

So lets see what the Germans do now - I'm sure it won't make for comfortable reading.

As I click the turn button, a decision pops up. I will say YES to this although its perhaps intriguing to see if this forces the Italian fleet out to play. I also say no as I don't know if I would have the possibility to re-route later on.

Well to be fair I said it wasn't going to be pretty... and I wasn't wrong

Just the two French Armies, two Chinese Armies and an entire French air unit wiped out....

Turn 20 - 7th June 1940

The Chinese were holding on quite nicely but then this turn, for no discernable reason, they appear to have collapsed. Changsha is open and the route to Chengchow opened up.

Time to wheel out this one from when I played the European game. As expected the Italian infantry fared badly against the French - but then all comes the vaunted Italian 'panzers' and.....

Turn 21 - 21st June 1940

Apparently the Aussies are still on strike.....

Despite the lack of U-boat or raider activity, the numbers have gone down. I am assuming that is because the closing of the Med has taken effect.

Sudan/Egypt -3
India -2
South Africa - 2
New Zealand -1
Australia - 4 (although I don't know if any of this reduction has something to do with the poxy strike).

Turn 21 - 21st June 1940

Reinforcements this turn:

UK - CV (which will remain in home waters for the present) and Engineers which I want to send to Egypt.

USA - BB (which goes to the Pacific)

China - Special Forces. No idea about their usefulness at this stage so I plonk them out of the way.

Turn 21 - 21st June 1940

I put to sea with the Home and 2nd Fleets. This may seem like overkill but I am conscious the AI may put additional units to sea.

Turn 21 - 21st June 1940

With the Germans just two hexes from Paris I decide to pull back everything as far as I can... which isn't much. I buy two Garrisons with the French as there is no reinforcement available.

With the British I buy a Corps and reinforce an HQ in Egypt.

Turn 21 - 21st June 1940

I've saved enough pennies to buy two armies with the Chinese. I take a chance and try and hold on with no major withdrawals....

With the Soviets I build an Engineer and with the US an Escort Carrier.
