Nik is known as a potentially promising and careful officer and will be better schooled after Admiral Speedy consumes the Pacific. He is best suited to command that last PT boat that Speedy will blow up.

History records great events in the War in the Pacific. Java Sea.....Coral Sea...Philippines Sea.
Few though have heard of the battle that was the turning point of World War II in the Pacific. That battle, was the battle of Ndini.
Ndini is a flat, inconspicuous piece of ex-volcano located east of the Coral Sea. The US had built a major airbase there to protect Ndini's prize export......bananas.
Every USN warship needed bananas in order to ensure crew health and morale. Failure to do so often led to things like the Battle of Savo Island. What happened there to cause such a lopsided Japanese victory. The simple answer was.....the Allied crews went bananas. (tsk tsk)
Knowing of this crucial chink in the Allied armor.....the Japanese sought to occupy Ndini. To complete this task, Admiral Yamamotto assigned his most powerful formation to ensure the base's subjecation.....the Kido Bootai. Yamamotto put this powerful force into a reletively junior officer's hands....Admiral Speedy.
Yamamotto's thoughts were that the US, being unwilling to lose Ndini's and their supply of bananas would come racing to the rescue of the beleagered base and he might have been right......only problem was that US intelligence got wind of the operation after intercepting a open transmission from Admiral Speedy, phoning home to excitedly inform his girlfriend of his promotion and vital top secret mission;
"GUESS WHAT???? I"VE BEEN PUT IN CHARGE OF KIDO BOOTAI!!!! WERE GONNA KICK AMERCIAN BUTT!!!! I CANT TELL YOU WHERE OR WHEN, BUT I"LL TALK TO YOU SOON AFTER WE GET BACK FROM NDINI."
After careful deliberation, US intel concluded that the target of this latest Japanese thrust must be.......Nidini.
The US fleet carefully set up it's ambush and put it's best admiral in charge of it....Admiral Nik. Nik's plan was simple but audacious.
"Well, as everyone knows....Japanese doctrine sucks, their aircraft suck, their pilots suck, we cant lose!"
Nidini was reinforced and sported an impressive if eclectic collection of aircraft. 6 new TBF bombers along with 4 B-26 bombers converted to carry torpedoes would compliment a mixed dive bomber force of SBD bombers and older SB2U models. a BS of B-17's flew in for deep recon duties and attacks of opportunity. Defending the base was a full squadron of F2A Buffalooo aircraft supported by a half dozen F4F-3 fighters.
Positioned at Point Ass-whuppin were two US air TF's positioned 60 miles apart. Admiral Nik's TF contained the Enterprise and Hornet while the 2nd TF would be commanded by Admiral Fletcher in the Yorktown. It was hoped to hit the Japanese first while their attention was on Ndini. Admiral Nik sternly cautioned Admiral Fletcher against deciding to refuel during this crucial operation. Fletcher's reply is not recorded but the rumor was that it went something like "Shut the hell up you black shoed freak!"

The damage was extensive and Ndini was unable to launch an immediate counterstroke due to the damage. But hope was not lost for the US carriers were able to launch a coordinated first strike while Admiral Speedy's attention was focused on the prize.
As the strike approached KB, an excited officer informed Admiral Speedy of the incoming threat.
"Pfff......big deal.....the raid will probably come in all piece-meal allowing our CAP shield to drive them off. Dont worry about it!"
Alas.....Admiral Speedy was incorrect.

As the smoke cleared, a dazed Admiral Speedy gazed out of the shattered bridge windows of the flagship Akagi and gazed down on the wreckage littering his flight deck. The admiral was heard to utter but a single word.....
"Doh!"
***
Even as the brave damage control teams attempted to stem the flames that had resulted from the fuel storage explosion deep inside Akagi's hanger, more trouble appeared for Ndini had gotten it's wind back and sent a contribution along with Admiral Nik's care package to return Speedy's calling card.
