Speedy vs Nikademus - Nik Mod 4.0

Post by Speedysteve »

Hi all,

Well here it is. The long awaited match up between the rightful owner of the World (Speedy) Japanese vs the rightful slave of the World (Nikademus) Allies.

We're playing from the start with Nik Mod 4.0 with the following settings:

Both sub doctrines off
Allied damage control on
Player upgrades on
As per norm no night bombing attacks other than city or naval also no more than 5 ships in ASW TF (depending on how the upcoming patch goes).

We are also playing 2 day turns.

Since Nik will be reading and commenting in here I won't discuss strategy only commenting on the clear Japanese supremacy and their victories.

-------------------------

December 7th 1941!

A Day of Infamy...........................

The Japanese launched an unprovoked attack across the Pacific. Admiral Speedy has only just taken control and received the following info:

KB attacks PH and heavily damages the BB's there. 2 are confirmed sunk - Arizona and Tennessee. At least 3 others heavily damaged!

Also heavy air attacks on the British fortress of Singapore and the US airbase at Clark Field.

----------------------------

Confirmed air losses for the 2 day period -

Allied - 248
Japanese - 40 (32 by flak).

-----------------------------

Now to the first plotting turn. 6 hours later...................

Banzai.

The aftermath at Pearl Harbour

small correction, my usual rule of thumb on ASW TF's is six ships max. (though not as vital in this mod since subs are Kablammo free here)

We never agreed 6 before. This is clearly a defunct game that ends here [;)]

Now be quiet and let me try and get some of my orders issued. It's going to take me at least 4 hours this. Curse the Westerners for making me go to war.

Orders issued after 3 1/2 hours work. I could have done with another 30-45 minutes work but I gotta rush out to a friends party.

Whilst I was plotting. I noticed this [:D]

Hi all,

The next 2 days past.....

Nik somehow moved POW and Repulse near Khota Bharu and sunk a couple of MSW and AP's. No big deal they were empty. By some God's divine intervention LBA at Saigon were grounded due to weather and the lucky b*stards escaped......

Apart from that my glorious men captured Vigan, Aparri and Khota Bharu........

I am trying something different in this opening phase and we'll see how it goes......

More to follow.

First time in any game that Leach and company acomplished their interdiction mission and escaped with only light damage. Not that we were worried anyway.....everyone knows that a modern battleship at sea cant be threatened by aircraft. Should any of those flying Japanese army crates show up....our Buffalos should be more than up to the task of repelling them.

Hi all,

11th and 12th December saw little movement that Nik will see but the whole map is crawling with my stuff going this way and that.

The action was all in the SRA with Clark Field being almost wiped from the planet. My theory is I have to bomb higher due to flak so i'll bring more bombers to drop bombs on the target [:D]

CVL Ryujo is have a ball near Menado. A large transport TF from the Phillipines heading down to Aus. AK Dos Hermanos is confirmed sunk and a couple more AK's/TK's take a hit.

A dutch sub puts a fish into an AK near Borneo heading £$^$&%^*(%^&$

In Malaya men are are streaming ashore and the RAF puts up a motley crw of planes that actually manage to put 2 torpedo's into a Destroyer [8|]

Total air losses for the 2 days:

12 Allied (8 on the ground)
12 Japanese (9 due to flak)

Hi all,

Nik is off this week so a little fewer turns than normal.

The 13/14th December 1942 saw the Japanese move as predicted.

In those 2 days I invaded Taytay, Puerta Princesa, Morotai and Wasile.

I would like to say more as to what i'm doing with my my units but since Buttdemus can see this i'm afraid I can't.

--------------

Some top action for the past 2 days:

Night Time Surface Combat, near Naga at 44,54

Japanese Ships
CL Nagara
DD Yukikaze
DD Tokitsukaze
DD Yamakaze
DD Kawakaze
DD Umikaze
DD Suzukaze
DD Shiokaze

Allied Ships
TK Manatawny
AK Elcano, Shell hits 8, Torpedo hits 3, and is sunk
AK Escalante R
AK Governor Wright, Shell hits 19, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
AK Sarangami, Shell hits 2, on fire
AK Si Kiang, Shell hits 10, Torpedo hits 3, and is sunk
AK Taurus

- Nik for some reason left these just sitting there in Naga. Accordingly the covering force at Legaspi set off at night and blew these boys apart.........

-----------------------

Bye the way who says night air attacks aren't possible........

Night Air attack on TF at 47,46

Allied aircraft
PBY Catalina x 20

Allied aircraft losses
PBY Catalina: 2 damaged

Japanese Ships
SS I-164, heavy damage
APD APD-37
APD APD-36
APD APD-38, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
APD APD-39

--------------------

Sub action -

The Dutch sub KXI was patrolling within 120 of Songkhia. Its not no more after being hit by 2 DC's from a convoy escort. I'm sure she'll make it. She is afteral lfull of Heineken and we know how much the Dutch hate to see Heineken being lost (sorry an English advert) [:D]

The Dutch sub O-19 puts a fish ionto an AP carrying men for Kuching. No problem she unloads as scheduled.

SS-164 was rounding the SW tip of Borneo when her alert crew spotted Allied surface ships! She dived fired her 2 stern tubes. A fish hit Boise! But the £$%£$& Allies gang banged her and sunk her [:(]

--------------

Air war -

Nothing major. The usuakl attacks over Clark Field and Malaya.

I lpst 15 planes (7 Betties to flak at 15,000 feet) in 2 days compared to Niks 13......

Hi all,

The 15th and 16th December 1941 saw some initial phase 1 successes occur.

Kuching was taken as was Puerta Princesa and Taytay. Tavoy was also taken and Apamama in the Gilberts.

------------

Kuching saw an interesting couple of days of action. The heavy guns of Kongo and Haruna softened up shore defences when all of a sudden 2 Allied Cruisers were spotted by lookouts! The yturned out to be the CL Dragon and Durban. Despite being aware of Japanese activity in the area they were blown to shreads.

Other allied shipping losses inclue 3 old DD's scuttled at Hong Kong Harbour (which fell on the 16th). The AVD Heron at Puerta was also reported scuttled.

Other sea action saw my ASW group near Taiwan take out the Sculpin which had been lounging around in the same 60 miles for days.

The Minelaying sub I-121 hit a British tanker in the Malacca Strait. Interestingly Nik is bringign stuff TO Singapore not away from it by the looks of it. Neells and Betties from Saigon attacked a TF approaching Singpore Harbour. The Zero's battled with the Buffalo's and actually lost a plane! The LBA's swept down and the AK Empire Baxter was left settling by the stern......

---------------

Buffalo's and Oscar's dueled in the Air over Khota Bharu. The Oscars performed well knocking down the bad guys at a 3:! ratio. Well done men.

--------------

Other landings will take place soon.

Both Cagayan and Davao should fall on Mindanao in the next couple of days.

All remains quiet in China. A lack of industry to capture at the front makes an advance here non-desirable.

Allied status report from Pearl Harbor, Oahu. (litterally [:D] )

Japanese forces continue to advance on all fronts despite our best efforts. Commonwealth forces, having failed to throw back the initial Japanese intrusion into the Malayan peninsula are consolidating their defensive position. Japanese army troops are reportedly concentrating at the northern border. We expect a push from that direction shortly. Large air battle over Singapore reported. Buffalo pilots suffered heavy losses initially but on the 2nd day managed to trade equally for once losing 2 machines but shooting down two confirmed "Type 0" aircraft of the 64th Ftr Sentai.

In the PI islands, Japanese air superiority makes any plans for the relief of the garrison unlikely. Land forces are currently consolidating their positions and preparing for a long siege.

Cleanup here at Pearl Harbor continues in the wake of the treacherous Japanese attack. Dangerous oil slicks continue to leak out of the shattered hulks of the Arizona and Tennessee and the airfields have only just finished clearing away the last of the wrecked aircraft and repairing the damaged airstrips. Repair efforts for the other damaged warships have already begun given our shipyard facilities are completely intact. PH is open for business once more and that business is retribution.

Hi all,

The 17th and 18th December 1942 saw a series of further interesting battles across the SRA.

Sea war -

Mini-KB found fresh pickings on both days south of Mindanao. Interestingly every AK and TK reported to go up heavily in flames after being hit. My experts have deduced that these ships are carrying away fuel to a safer destination. At least it would have bene safer if they made it [;)]

The other air vs sea action of interest occured in the Malacca Strait. Here plenty of Allied shipping is trying to escape the soon to be besieged area of Malaya and Sumatra. Nells abnd Betties at Saigon had been instructed to arm torpedo's and to scout the area for any Allied vessels. Several AK's were hit in the Malacca area.

Todays tallies on shipping:

13 x AK hit.
3 x TK hit.
5 x AK confirmed sunk.

-------------------

Air War -

Fierce air battles raged over Khota Bharu as Allied air power attempted to hit transports unloading war material. The 59th and 64th Fighter Sentai's patrolled the skies above. A series of swirling engagements occured with Allied Buffalo's escorting a variety of medium and torpedo planes. Many Allied aircraft appeared to be damaged by the nimble Oscar's. 2 Buffalo's were confirmed shot down for 1 Oscar. Minial damage was sustained by my ships.

-------------------

Land war -

The buildup continues on both Luzon and Malaya. Whuilst this occurs landing forces overwhelmed the 2 key installations on Mindanao - Cagayan and Davao. Pathetic resistance was encountered.

----------

Total air losses for the day -

Allied - 4
Japanese - 9 (mainly ops)

---------

Below is a sample of the air battles over Khota Bharu.

Hi all,

The 19th and 29th saw action in similar areas to the previous 2 days.

Sea action -

I-155 spotted a TF leaving Java and sank the AP Van Landsberge. Interestingly it was carrying parts of a Dutch Base Froce. Nik is clearly trying to move what he can out of the SRA what with many AK/TK's having being sunk carrying oil or fuel too. Interesting.

One of Nik's subs foolishly attempted to put fish into one of my transports north of Luzon but rightfully so they decided to miss my lovely ship.

---------------

Air action -

Lots of this today across the SRA.

My LBA from Saigon again found many AK's off Malacca. Is Nik bringing stuff in or tryign to take it aways?!? Interestingly little cargo was left burning and no men were ported lost. Either way 5 or 6 more AK's found the bottom of the sea today off Malaya.

Nik's Catalina's attempted to attack shipping off Luzon at NIGHt again. These guys are poor though and not 1 ship was hit.

Mini-KB found only 1 additional target today. The damaged AK Siaoe inbetween Menado and Tarakan. She was sent to a watery death.

The 56th Division advancing on Kuantan was bombed by LBA from Singapore. Oscar's were protecting Khota Bharu at the time so no opposition was offered.

A fore of Swordfish escorted by Buffalo's attacked a convoy in Khota Bharu harbour. 33 Oscar's were on CAP half of which were the 'elite' 64th Sentai. These boys have learnt the trade recently and out maneuvered the squat Buffalo's. By ythe end of the intense 30 minute battle 7 Buffalo's and 2 Swordfish had met their doom. No losses were recored on the Japanese side.

---------------

Land war -

Little to report here. Men are forming up at the necessary parts and others are en route. Nik is trying to take back Legaspi. Measures have been taken.

Can't comment on other stuff.

1 Allied planes fell to only 2 Japanese.

A good couple of days.

Hi all,

The past 4 days have seen action all in the SRA.

----------

China is quiet as the world is to a deaf person.

----------

The Phillipines -

have seen the elimination and probable evacuation of most Allied air units. The flak at Clark Field (with 22 reported Allied units there) is formidable. To give an example. Today a Sentai of Lillies and Sallies attacked bombed from 18,000 feet. The flak claimed 3 of them and damaged 14 others. A place to be respected. Luckily an ack-ack gun ain't much good against a stalking IJA soldier through the jungle [;)]

The unloading of men continues at both Aparri and San Marcelino.

Allied subs have been pests over the last 2 days. An S-boat sank a loaded AK and an Salmon class boat put a fish into a loaded AP. Orders have been given to kill any submarine or submariner found.

---------------

Malaya -

It looks like 'Leo's test' is to be incorporated here. Most of my men are advancing on Alor Star and will take the place tomororw. Accordingly the Allies are running like dogs to Singapore where the final showdown will be in the next 3 weeks.

--------------

Overview -

I'm feeling a little frustrated that by 24th December I haven't taken more than I have. However MAJOR troop concenatrations are in place in the Phase 1 areas and there is no immediate rush. Time will tell.......

Oh yeah forgot that [;)]

Must have been tough for you to order it. I mean knowing that the inital landing is just an SNLF.

"Oh Mac can we really iorder 4 Divisions against them? Of coure we can son"

Although you may not know it I rescued 3/4 of the unit by those CL/DD's that shelled your men in the previous 2 nights.
