Dateline Pearl Harbor:
The French Armored Cruiser Dupleix was scuttled today after taking a torpedo hit. The ship had been badly damaged at the battle at Taytay and had little chance of making port. The crew was taken off by a nearby Dutch freighter.
Intel from Kiska confirms that a Jap Brigade and Jap Marines are assaulting the island. The coastal guns have inflicted some damage on the ship off-loading their cargo, but there is little hope the island will hold long enough for help to arrive.
The French government reaffirmed their committment to stay the course in the war against Japan. This despite rumors that they were seeking a seperate peace that surfaced yesterday.

The USS Langley made another air attack on Jap ships with little effect. Intel from the attack indicates that there is at least one Jap Battleship operating between Marcus Island and Wake.
US sub screens have been pushed out.
There also seems to be a buildup of forces at Kwajalein. Could this be a reinforcement TF for the failed attack at Canton Island?
US forces are spread thin and will have difficulty protecting all this territory. Tough decisions will have to be made.

Dateline Pearl Harbor:
MARINES PUT UP VALIANT FIGHT AT KISKA!!!!!!!!!!
The lonely outpost of Kiska Island at the far end of the Aleutian Islands was the scene of a violent clash today. The 300 or so Marines on the island helped stiffen several thousand Navy and Army personnel and they were able to throw back the first assault. Unfortunately the defenses were seriously damaged and the fall of the island is all but a foregone conclusion. The Japanese have brought a full combat brigade and a Marine Regiment and heavily outnumber the defenders.
ATROCITY ON MINDANAO!!!!!!
The valiant members of the Philippine Reserve Division where overrun by the Japanese today. A few survivors indicated that Japanese troops brutally killed Philippino troops that tried to surrender. It is thought that less than 200 Philippinos survived the battle. Several were able to escape into the jungle. The only base still held by US forces is the island of Cebu.

A later broadcast reported that the defenses had been breached. Since then nothing has been heard and the fate of the garrison is unknown.
A new draft of a further 100,000 men has been called and 2 additional National Guard divisions have been called to active service to help guard the US West Coast. The battle for Jehol continues to be an artillery dual. One that the Chinese appear to be loosing. The massive Jap force has inflicted significant casualties for the past week. The supply situation has become dire. Chung Ki Shek has been negotiating with the various warlords in an attempt to get additional units for the army at Jehol. Unfortunately he has met with little success. Demands of money and concessions have been outside the real of possibility for the cash strapped republic.

Dateline Pearl Harbor:
Skirmishing continues at Jehol. This battle is tying up some 5 Jap Divisions. There are calls in Congress that we should provide more support to the Chinese government. Unfortunately with the heavy losses suffered by the Asiatic fleet that assistance is limited at the current time.
Meanwhile Midway continues to brace for the inevitable battle with the Japanese fleet. Jap subs entering the port and "flashes" of ship movements across the submarine pickets around Midway indicate that there may be some major action soon. Dateline Pearl Harbor:
War hysteria grows as the indications of a Jap buildup near Wake Island grow. US sub pickets continue to pickup ship movements, but everything turns back before they reach Midway. The US sub patrol lines are in a period of rotation but all avenues towards Midway appear to be covered.
Admiral Carpender's Asiatic Fleet is revising their strategy and hope to put to sea soon. The fleet has very few bases left from which to operate and no land forces currently available to capture enemy bases. There is talk about withdrawing the 15th Infantry from China to provide an amphibious force. However this runs counter to Congresses desire to support the Republic of China.

The Dutch Light Cruiser Sumatra paid a courtesy visit to Pearl Harbor today as it completes its trip around the world. Ultimate destination is the Dutch East Indies. From Pearl Harbor the cruiser is moving on Tarawa and will pay a stop at Raboul before moving onto Java.
US destroyers of the Asiatic fleet surprised a Jap surface combat group composing of 2 Light Cruisers and 4 Destroyers. The US destroyers broke off the action after only a couple of exchanges of gunfire. An inquiry into the action will be held at Saigon when the ships return to base. Admiral Carpender the fleet commander in the Asiatic theatre is reportedly not pleased that the destroyers did not even attempt a torpedo run.

Dateline Pearl Harbor:
The Navy reported that they damaged a Jap sub southeast of Midway. In the past several days sightings of subs in the vicinity of Pearl Harbor have increased significantly. The sub sighting could indicate the much anticipated attack on Midway. Or not. For several weeks now the Navy has expected the attack which has not yet materialized.
US sub patrols have also caught sightings of ships between Midway and Wake as well as between Marcus Island and Wake Island. The US sub R-8 tried a recon into Wake island to see if the Jap battleships were at anchor. The sub was driven off by Jap aircraft with heavy damage. Could be the 4th sub to be sunk by Jap aircraft, it is long way to Pearl Harbor.

Dateline Brisbane:
The Southwest Pacific HQ laison group arrived in Brisbane today to start some coordination operations with the Australians. The liaison group is planning on staying in Brisbane for 2 weeks and then move to their eventual base at Noumea. The Southwest Pacific HQ is going to play a critical role in the eventual liberation of the Philippine Islands. This task would be greatly facilitated if the we can negotiate the use of some Australian bases. There has been talk of a long-term lease of Raboul and/or some exhanges of territory.

Dateline Pearl Harbor:
BATTLE OF MIDWAY!!!
2 Japanese Carriers attacked the US Battle Fleet at anchor in Midway. The fleet was not protected by fighter cover and was vulnerable to air attack. However the so-called "Gun Admirals" did not believe that their battleships were vulnerable. This was not the case.
Several days ago Jap carriers and battlecruisers were detected crossing the sub patrol line. The USS Langley and escorts, patrolling off French Frigate Shoals, immediately moved northwest in an attempt to intercept the carriers.
This morning at dawn Jap carrier aircraft attacked the US fleet at anchor. They were able to make several torpedo hits on the US battleships. Fortunately Jap torpedoes appear to be weak and the damage inflicted was not thought to be significant.
The USS Langley steaming to the southeast of the Jap force moved to intercept and was able to launch a strike. They put a torpedo in a Jap Battlecruiser setting it on fire. It is unknown how badly damaged the ship is. Torpedo bombers based at Midway also made an attack but did not score any hits.
The airplane is a relative new comer to Naval warfare and it is believed that further development could turn this into a major weapons platform to supplement the battleship.
In other news the Asiatic Fleet's DESRON 13 patrolling in the Sula Sea off Tawi Tawi engaged a Jap force. In the battle the squadron was able to torpedo a Jap Battleship and damage several destroyers. 2 US destroyers were damaged.
Jap Battleships sortied into the port of Shang Hai and destroyed the 2 US patrol vessels guarding the harbor.
