- EDIT : I failed to mention in the screenshot that ADavid B tends to fly his bombers at 5000'. We are plaing with 6-9000' excluded from altitude settings because of the flak gap...

- EDIT I failed to mention that a sub outside of Sydney encountered several TF and was spotted by TBD's ...perhaps I have located the American CV's. After PM is taken I think I may start a sweep...

Nice AAR!
Whenever the allied player moves everything to Manilla you should say thank you. Is it important to take Manilla 2/42? Yes if you havec a conciderable amount of assets tied down there, otherwise no. Usually I just leave enough Inf (NG, SNLF, Brigade) so that he can not counterattack and plenty of artillery and some armour and engineers. Use the other assets elswere, come 6/42 after 6 months of artillery barage and continous airforce traning the roten house caves in easely. I don't care if he manages to sub evacuate some units, my crack LBA subhunters and ASW assets will take their tol on the submarines.
When is the India invasion planed? Remember to build a solid defence in the pacific first as you will probably need the KB in the Indian ocean. The allied player should strike in the pacific when you are conducting operations elswere. If you can manage without the KB in India the sooner you strike the better.
Whats the plan for northern Australia and the south pacific?

-I'm going to take a wild guess that my ARM units in Manila are worthless...During the combat replay they consistently show as zero even though they are at or near full strength.

Probably an indicator you need more troops there, and/or you need to kill more supply there.

March 4 - Disaster at Darwin
I had a nice long explanation for the days events, but it has been lost somewhere on the Internet...about par for the course today.
March the 4th was a disaster at Darwin - 14 Nells destroyed a like number of Betties also thrown away. ADavidB's bombing of Lautem the day before delayed the launch of the fighter sweep of Darwin. My Nells and Betties flew into a buzzsaw of P-40Es and Wirraways, the bombers that did get through did destroy a B-17 on the ground though. In addition the B-17's were either reinforced with a second group or relocated to Wyndham as they struck Lautem for a second day. My cap performed much better downing 3 and damaging 14 of the beasts. When the sweep finally did arrive the P-40's shot down 3 of my zeros in return for one Wirraway and 2 P-40's.
It was a very bad day for me......
March the 4th was a disaster at Darwin - 14 Nells destroyed a like number of Betties also thrown away. ADavidB's bombing of Lautem the day before delayed the launch of the fighter sweep of Darwin. I assume you have engineers at Manila? If not....get some. Now. [;)]
Get a load of Sonias at Clark and airfield/port attack. They are much better at getting supply hits than the LB.

Yeah and don't forget numbers are key for both engineers and ground troops. Remember the defender will defend at 25% after supplies are gone, so if you don't have enough mass to overcome that 25% AV, then you have to slowly whittle away at his troops for a long time until enough are damaged or destroyed to push the odds over the top for you.
Mass more troops and get some more engineers and it should fall rather quickly.
Looking at your last attack, I’d say he is 100% prepared (you should be too before you launch any more attacks) and has good leadership in charge of his forces. I’d also hazard a guess that the US units still have quite a bit of supply on hand still, even if his base is empty of supply.
Of course you can just leave a holding force as well, since unsupplied troops will slowly attrition away on their own. Leave enough behind to prevent a counter-attack and they will slowly starve themselves into submission. But right now it appears you just don't have enough mass to overcome the US yet.
But each attack is damaging or killing his troops, so get those forts down and bring in another division or two and things should swing your way pretty quick. But make sure you’re 100% prepared for Manila with all your forces since he obviously is already.
Also make sure you have a command HQ within range of your troops since corps level HQ’s only give you a boost of about 10% on their own. A command HQ can add up to another 90% depending on leadership, but it has to be within normal range of the corps HQ in the combat hex.

Currently have three Engineer Regiments at Manila. Have been pounding Manila relentlessly from the air from the beginning with a combination of LB &DB set on Air and Port Attack.
The last six? (it seems like it may be more) attacks I've been met by a stone wall. His fort level seems to be perpetually stuck on 5. With nothing reducing them. I currently have additional aritleery and two -three more engineer regiments enroute. I'm also going to relocate the Southern Area Army HQ to Clark currently i do not have a command HQ (i do have the 14th? Army HQ) in the Phillipines. Hopefully this will help!!!
EDIT : The key seems to be the lack of a Command HQ. That should be solved within the week!!!!!

I wouldn't expect any miracles right away. His command HQ is probably 100% prepared and yours is not, so he gets another boost for that.
Basically it's 10% for regular combat HQ, up to 90% for a command in range of the combat HQ and then something like another 100% for the command HQ being 100% prepped for the target base, so give your command HQ time to prep-up before you can expect a huge shift in your comparative AV's. Of course another 80%-90% right away may or may not do the trick, but don't get your hopes up too high until you’re prepped for Manila with the command HQ.

March 5, 42 - What's good for the goose...
You would think that David would have seen the error of my ways and adjusted his forces to avoid the same mistake, alas he did not...
03/05/42
Day Air attack on Koepang , at 28,77
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 19
Allied aircraft
Catalina I x 3
Hudson I x 25

3 x Hudson I bombing at 5000 feet
3 x Hudson I bombing at 5000 feet
1 x Hudson I bombing at 5000 feet
1 x Hudson I bombing at 5000 feet
2 x Hudson I bombing at 5000 feet

My Zero pilots have finally figured out how to attack the Allied twin Engine bombers. No 4E beasts appeared today, after the dust-up of the last two days in the skies above Timor and Northern Oz. Perhaps the attrition rate was too high for David, we are not playing with PDU's. I highly recommend that PDU's be turned off by everyone, not playing with them tends to make you much more conscious of your available forces...
=============================================
I also sprung a small trap on the Allied forces which had been pummeling Mandalay...

Day Air attack on Mandalay , at 33,30
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 7
Allied aircraft
Blenheim IV x 10
No Japanese losses
Allied aircraft losses
Blenheim IV: 4 destroyed, 2 damaged
Japanese ground losses:
10 casualties reported
Runway hits 1
Aircraft Attacking:
4 x Blenheim IV bombing at 15000 feet
2 x Blenheim IV bombing at 15000 feet

All in all it was a good day for me as I also captured Teleokbetong, Jesselton, Gili-Gili and Sag Sag. The defences in Java also appear to be relatively weak and I hope to have ownership of the island in a few days. Then I can move out and take out the rest of Sumatra and mop up the last pockets of resistance in the SRA....
