This was a feature in Gary's Western Front game, and apparently he wanted to do it in WiR too, but towards the end of development they dropped the idea for some reason. When they did that, they forgot to update the manual.

No, it would require a lot of work on the source code to have this. There is a reason why Gary didn't do it himself. This isn't something Arnaud is going to spend all his time on for months when there are many other things that need fixing.
