Fellow novice required for PBEM.

Post by Greg J »

You guys are right, the AI is really stupid.

Having beat it as the Germans, and just about to beat it as the Russians, I think it is time to step up to PBEM and play against a human opponent.

But I want to play against a similarly experienced opponent and not for it to be ordained that I get flogged from the outset.

I have not worked out how PBEM works yet, but as I have the version downloaded from this site, I presume I am already to go, just need to do a little research.

Hi. I am a beginner too. I have played only against AI ant only untill september (both sides).

I 'd like to play on the russian side with zipped files (without the PBEM program), 1 turn per day. I don't yet know exactly how to play by mail ;-)

Guys

It's easy after you do a few turns. The below example does not use the PBEM version of the game.

Say Greg J takes Germans. From start screen he picks 41 campaign, secure PBEM and 'even' ballance.
Click 'accept setup' You will then get the password screen. Type in a password and hit enter.

The turn opens.. Play the turn and after combat you will be asked to save it. Pick 'A' slot. The game exits.

Go to your game folder and find the files 'savea' 'savea.cd' and 'savea.md' and pack those 3 files into a zip.
(i use the date and side as a name. example the first geramn turn would be 22june41_G.zip )

Send the zip to Popov as an attachment to an email. He saves the zip to his WiR folder and unpacks it.
At his start screen he picks 'saved game', 'secure pbem' the pick save game screen opens and he clicks on 'A' the password screen comes up and for his first turn he will have to pick a password as well.
He then repeats the process above and off you go.

Hope this helps

Hello Greg J and Popov,

I'm up for a PBEM-game. '41 campaign only. German or Russian doesn't matter. My experience I beat Russian AI in summer 1942, beat German AI in winter 1944. No PBEM-victories yet. If you want to play as Germany send me turn 1 to :
andi_leman@hotmail.com
If you want to play as Russia send me an email and I'll start.

Thanks for the response, I'll be in touch.

I'll just start one game for the time being though. I am not sure if I could stick to one day turnarounds. Is that the normal turnaround? Some nights and weekends I will be made to do something other than WIR.

Also the (real) footy season is about to start ... that might cause me some moral dilemma's. CARN THE PIES!

I don't know how often the others play. I have never played by email. Now I began a game but I can play several games. I you wish to play I am ok. My email is popov@enseirb.fr.

I can play 1 turn a day MAX. But if you wish, we don't need to play every day. When you finish you send me your savegame and when I finish I send it to you. So that if you didn't finish you don't send it.

But there is something I thought about it : There are 52 weeks a year. If the war goes to 1945 that is 200 weeks, i.e. 200 days of gameplay = 6 MONTHS!!!!!
