Multiplayer clients & serial #'s

I don't really care whether a developer chooses to insist that everybody in a multiplayer game has a licensed copy of their software -- I can see arguments for either approach -- but I was curious if I could do a LAN game with Harpoon 3 ANW (just to introduce/promote it to some friends) using only one (my) licensed copy.
