PBEM Bug

Post by Drake666 »

Ok, was play Soviets vs Germans. I was Germans and on the Soviets 6th turn the game would not load. Tryed replaying turn 5 and then tryed to load turn 6 as a test and it still would not load.

I was using Spec Ops as Germans and on turn 6 or around would have ben when they showed up. This could be the bug, in a E-mail game if you use Spec ops around turn 6 when they should show up, they do something to the game file that makes it not load.

This is just a gess, not sure if im right.

I have recieved at least one verified case of the .dat file not being overwritten by the encrypted copy...

If you open the *.dat file in wordpad and can read anything (ie its not gibberish characters) then the file save was interupted somehow.

Not sure what causes this...

The pbem system allows recover - but you need all the files you sent and received.

Load the files in sequential order attempting to play each one (those you sent your opponent won't "play" but just try...)when you get to the one before the broken one, play it and then continue on from there.

We did this as a compromise between making it a royal pain to replay turns (especially late in a game) and to allow recovery from file errors (like this).

Nope never worked.

Turn 5 .dat file is all gibberish and turn 6 .dat file is to. But every time I replay turn 5 and then try and load turn 6, nothing happens. I should be getting the screen were you types in the other player password, was doing this for a test.

Have other people used Spec Ops in their PBEM game without any problem. Was just thinking that may be the problem.

We have started a new game now and we are hopeing for more luck.

I played pbem with a Spec ops mission (Which Redleg's HQ managed to cream as I appeared almost on top of it ;-)

So I know the commando raids work in pbem (just didn't "work" well enough:-)

I've played a number of PBM games with my son. We actually transfered the files over a lan rather than over the internet.

Anyway, we have had this very same problem a number of times. We have played a number of different nationalities, and every so often we have to quit the game because the last saved file won't load.

I'm glad this is happening to someone else.

Hi,

Since this problem also occurred with secure games in SPWW2, I just play unsecured games in both it and SPWAW. Just hit escape when you are first asked for a password. Save the game each turn on your opponent's 'Start game' screen.

How big a game was it?

The "secure mode" is intende for tournament and ladder play where you don't know the opponent.

The "unsecure" makes things loads easier for "friendly games".
