Balance of Power 2

Post by Martiallaw »

Hi Matrix team,

Why not create a game like "Balance of Power" naming it "Balance of Power 2" or some other suitable name? If so make the game based on the current geopolitical situation of the planet, i.e. now its multipolar with USA, Russia, China, EU and perhaps India, Pakistan, Israel and Japan as contending superpowers. It will be a big hit if I am not wrong!

I actually didn't care for the original "Balance of Power", since it was possible to lose big but only to win small. (IIRC the game did not model a collapse of the Soviet Union as a possibility.) A new game would have to have a better victory model (perhps the total discrediting of radical Islam, or a regime change in a rival country.)
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

There WAS a Balance of Power version 2, the problem is with both, Chris Crawford favored the Reds, it was impossiable to win if you pushed too hard cause USSR would go to Nuclear war and You lost if Nuke war occured.

Even so it was in its way at that time kinda fun in the smaller way.

A Geopolitique game for now is overdue, we had balance of power, Geopolitique, and some others in 80-90's but none have been around in the 2000's..

Todays politics would have to include USA's border problems, Islamic Terrorism, the globalism of things
rogue nations of Iraq, iran, N.Korea sort and such looking to gain Nuclear weapons..

It might be sellable... if it was realistic, crawfords wasn't because the bias vs USA going to the brink and USSR triggering nuke war..

I still have my old versions of Balance of power... but no 5 1/4 inch Floppy drive to even attempt an install under XP... as I recall the original and 2nd version were win 3.1 games.

Noise? What Noise? It's sooooo quiet and Peaceful!

If you played as the USSR, did the US never initiate a nuclear war if you pushed to hard? Further, isn't that the point of the game? To be able to se how far you can push it and at the same time avoiding nuclear war?
