Lost tool tips
I strangely can't see tool tips now when I scroll over the weather or orders buttons. I thought maybe related to the patch or Robin's Paper mod so did a complete uninstall and still happens even with the fresh and unpatched game.
I can right click and see map info OK
Of course I played and had these tips from the beginning when I first got the game but sunddenly lost them.
I did just install/update to IE 7 though.
Any ideas? I have tried different COTA resolutions and having the Desktop match COTA and all. Currently Desktop is 1024 X 768 and so is COTA but no help.

RE: Lost tool tips
Fixed myself guys. Took a shot at reloading the latest DirectX and it works again. Me thinks something trashed my Direct X unrelated to COTA. Maybe IE7 or maybe not. Documented now anyway in case somnebody else has problems.

Argh... It came back again and updating/repairing DirectX did not do it this time. Can you give me any clues Dave as to what may be a good area for me to focus on to fix this i.e. video driver, etc..? The right click map box is OK but other pop ups do not show. Darn PC's...

RE: Lost tool tips
Latest Catalyst ATI driver did not fix either. Frustrating....
RE: Lost tool tips
Very odd indeed.
Has anyone else encountered this or something similar with our or someone else's product?
One thing you could chekc is your popup blocker settings on your web browser. Try turning these off ( ie allow popups ) and see if that works. What browser do you use?
Do you run any anti-spyware software?

I had IE7 installed but uninstalled thinking this may be the issue but no luck. I am back to IE6 with Pop Up's On (allowed). I run anti-spyware but nothing in the background. Only on demand.
Does the code that does this pop up in COTA use some external software to do this (i'm no software guru except 8086 machine code [:D])? Wondering if I have some corrupted file outside of COTA since I have reinstalled more than a few times troubleshooting this. Just trying to figure out where to go next. It's ultimately a minor issue but annoying nonetheless... [8|]
RE: Lost tool tips
I encountered the same problem with COTA, but in my case it was sufficient to save and reload the scenario.
I strongly suspect the cause was the activation of a control run by my antivirus program AVG Free Edition. I have simply shifted the time of these controls and haven't had this problem anymore (at least up to now !).

RE: Lost tool tips
Thanks Renato. I do have AVG but not running in the background that I know of. I will shut all its processes off though that are running and I will try that latter and report back.
What AVG Controls are you referring to exactly?
I think I had tried Save and Reload but will try that also.
I recently just downloaded AVG 7.5 (major upgrade) after using an earlier version for a long time. Forgot about this little update work I did and its possible influence.[;)]

I'll be damned... By shutting off the AVG process AVGEMC.exe my tool tip pop ups come back in COTA. Wonder why? This file is necessary from what I can tell for scanning my E-Mails. I'll try this for awhile and see if it sticks.
RE: Lost tool tips
Deerslayer,
I'm no interface programmer - I usually leave that to Paul and the others. But I'd say that AVG is intercepting the standard MFC calls we use, which is very naughty of it. [:)] I'll ask Paul to comment.

The AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition performs mandatory test runs once a
day. These runs cannot be disabled (for that you should buy a complete
version which is not free), but may simply be stopped or paused, once
initiated.
Fortunately there is a button called "Control Center", which has in the
low part another button called "Scheduled Tasks", which allows you to
define the time window of the day in which these test runs are
performed. I have shifted the time window of the test runs (which
perhaps improperly in my preceding post I called control runs) in hours
in which I don't play.
I infere from what you wrote, that you have the AGV complete edition
(non free), and therefore you can do what you like. But if you disable
AGV when you play, be careful to play offline and to reactivate it when
you go online, especially if you receive mail from a University.
Hope this clarify.

Interesting as I have no Tasks Scheduled and seems the raw proess itself is casuing the problem. Seems other players should have seen my issue also since AVG is so common.
Oh well, I'll live with it and see if it sticks.
Thanks for the help guys.

RE: Lost tool tips
AVG 7.5 just posted a new Engine update and this issue went away for me after that. [;)] FYI
RE: Lost tool tips
Good news Deerslayer, congratulations!
For me nothing is changed, even after the latest updates; fortunately it isn't a big problem.

RE: Lost tool tips
I have exactly this same issue - no navigator tool tips - in COTA\HTTR. Right clicking on map displays OK. I am not running AVG or anything similar. I have closed down all programs\services that are not system required but still no tool tips. Any ideas?
RE: Lost tool tips
Have you guys tried to run it in 1024/768 and see if problem persists?
How long will you pretend you can't do anything about it? Support www.animalsasia.org

Melnibone,
What OS are you running? Can you please send us a DX report - refer to the sticky thread in this support subForum for details on how to produce one. Send it to support[at]panthergames[dot]com

Thanks. I'll do that later today when I get home. I'm running XP SP3.
