PC lockup at intro video

Post by MDaKiwi »

Just bought TOAW III, upgraded to the latest patch 3.0.0.17. It plays the first two intro videos then locks up my PC requiring a manual power down. I believe it is trying to play the TOAD.wmv video when it crashes. I got around this by renaming the video files and it starts ok now (haven't tried going any further at this stage). The TOAD.wmv file plays fine through Win Media player 10 and that player is the default for .wmv.
The PC is WinXP SP2, 2.4 Ghz Pentium, 2Gb RAM, patches up to date, NVDIA GeForce 6200 256Mb video card, Win Media Player is fully updated as well.

Shame on us - no answer for two days..

There have been some cases like yours with not-up-to-date drivers for video cards, iirc these have also been NVDIA cards. Check if you have the latest driver for your video card.

Thought that might be the answer. However whenever I update the driver beyond 8.4.2.1 I get a problem with Windows Media Player 10 hanging while trying to load video files. Can't find the answer to this one on either MS or NVidia sites and this is the first time I've had another problem which needed to be solved by updating the driver.
So for now I guess I'll stick with renaming the files, since the rest of OAW III seems to work fine.

Thanks

Just do so - rename the files. On the other hand, you could also use media player 9 or winamp.
