Japan quits (part 2)

Playing a game with Germany and all other power under the AI, I saw Japan surrendering in the middle of 1945 while the US was nowhere at striking distance from mainland Japan.

As the next turn I had the video about the A-Bomb I suppose it would be the reason but as Japan was mainly untouched I don't think their production could be below 10. I'll have a look back at the save to see this.

Now even so as I said the US was still fighting his way East of the Philippines and the fight was inconclusive really. Germany had wiped out UK and Russia then slowly building up around Cuba to control Central America before going for the US invasion.

In that case A-Bomb or no A-Bomb I don't quite see Japan surrendering.

Shouldn't it be better to put at least 2 criteria. One about Japan situation and one about Germany situation before Japan surrenders because of the A-Bomb?

I know this will not be a likely situation against human players but still.

By the way was my first game and if the AI is still not smart enough it's already way better feeling to play against. Good job.

Interesting. I've rarely seen the Japanese AI attacking Russia. Is Japan at war with Russia in your game. That is supposed to be one of the prerequisites for a Japanese surrender via the A-bomb.
 
With the AI, you generally need to give to it at least some supply help in order for it to do well. It simply doesnt do a good enough job of conserving (ie, it runs its fleets full out when it doesnt need to etC). So giving it even a small amount is a big help as far as getting it to perform better.

There is a known bug with Japan surrendering even though Japan is not yet at war with Russia.
 
If you have a save game just prior to Japan surrendering then please mail it to me (janbs@stofanet.dk). I will then take a look at the situation to figure out if the 10 points rule was working or not for you.
