There are several posts up already discussing what is new about TGS. They should have most of your answers.

Short answer to your 1st question: improved graphics (including new resolutions), audio and virtual cockpits (like one in Starshatter 3.7.6). And that is most of it. Meaning no new campaings and no improved AI.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

There was no actual "Homeworld" mod. I found a whole selection of Homeworld ship models on the web and converted a few of them to work in Starshatter. That's all. Doing a full mod is beyond my capabilities.

They do work in SS:TGS. They were on the Grouper site, run by Turgotz, for download but I don't know if that site is still available.

Turgotz, is it?

Well I honestly just stumbled upon this game for the first time. I haven't heard anything about it at all, and actually saw a post about it on the Awful Forums. I got a few questions, and rather then start a whole new thread I figured they could go here. First off, this game looks absolutely amazing, the newtonian physics sounds like a lot of fun, and I have to give my compliments to everyone who is a part of this game. I have yet to buy it, but that is only because I'm visiting family for the thanksgiving break. Believe me once I get back to my apartment I'm going to be all over this game. On to the questions..

On the site it says that this is a joystick capable space sim, and that is awesome. I play X3 and love it, only problem being that I cannot use my HOTAS Cougar with it because there is just too much in the way of buttons to fit on even the 30+ buttons of the HOTAS. Would I run into that problem with SS? I have very limited desk space, and the HOTAS takes up basically my entire desk. I can refer back to the keyboard for non-vital buttons, but I would like to have the vast majority of "important" buttons on my stick/throttle.

Your reccomended settings say a 2.4 processor, and I just was wondering how it would run on that. I got a bit better (3.0 P4, 1gb RAM, 256mb x800) and would love to run this in all it's glory. I do plan on upgrading my computer in a couple months, but will I be able to run this in pretty mode with my current set up?

Other than that, I just wanted to make a post here and say Hi to everyone. It seems like there is a pretty small following for this game, so hopefully I can get to know most of you and we can have a good old time talking about SS. It seems that the player base for this game is rather spread out, so I thought it would be fun to see where everyone is from. I'm from the tiny island of Kauai, which for those of you that don't know is in the Hawaiian chain.

*edit*Oh and I forgot one question. Your game supposedly has an RTS-esque side to it. Can I avoid this completely if I choose to? I really prefer to just be a part of the whole, listening to orders and such. Ideally I'd like to stay as a Fighter pilot and maybe be a wing leader or something at most. I don't want to have to micromanage a dozen frigates with fighters while trying to fly my own ship. So is it possible to just be a lowly grunt forever, or are you forced up the ranks?

You shouldn't have problems with buttons. The controls are pretty streamlined in that regard. Yes, you can remain a fighter pilot throughout the entire series of campaigns. There is no money-making or resource gathering thing in this. The RTS aspect deals almost entirely at the fleet command level. However, you will probably start dabbling in the modding side of things as this game is AWESOME in that regard. Have fun.

Thanks for the response, I've been playing the demo and got to say I love it. The graphics aren't too bad at all, and from what I read the newest version works on graphics and audio so I'm set. I will be buying this game as soon as I get back to my apartment, and will begin messing around with it. I don't really have any experience modding anything, so how user friendly is the SDK? Am I going to spend years and years learning the ins and outs, or should I have a basic grasp rather quickly?

You'll pick it up pretty quick. Although, like anything else, you get better with practice.

Simulation is steak and strategy comes for dessert. You can stick on fighter, but if you want get anything done fast, I recommend cruise around with cruisers. There are more functions to command starships, but you'll get job done without issuing any orders, though sometimes it would be helpful to ask for help.
