Indoor Field Goal Bug, Maybe?

Im playing an indoor game, team A kicks a field goal, it misses and bounces out of endzone. Team B takes over the ball at the spot of the kick. I dont remember that being the rule. Hope not anyway. Since there is no punting in indoor football, this will lead to a lot of 1st and goal situations for the other team.

I was sure the opposing team would bring the ball out to like the 15 or 20yd line. But, not sure.

I would assume it would be at the spot of the field goal since it's a short field but I'm not sure either

Well the AFL has nets to bounce the ball back into play so it's not a concern for 'real indoor football'. Currently I'm copying the outdoor rules which put the ball back at the point of the kick. But yes, you're right, I may need to change the rules to put the ball on the 5 or 10.

Okay, I've made that change and the ball is brought out to the 5 yardline. I can make it the 10 if people think that would work better. The 5 seems to work okay though.

I think the 5 is fine, but can handle whatever people decide on. As long as its not from the spot of the kick.

I'd prefer the 10 yard line. Even with it being an indoor game on a short field, I've never liked the touchback spot being the 5. It always think it just hems the team in too much.

The 25 is way to much. I can set it at 10, people can try it out and see if it's okay for them.

I am unsure why the 25 is amazing considering that the placement had been at the point of the kick, and that could have been over the midfield line.  Why would the 25 be considered way too much?  Isn't that like saying that the rouge rule is something one doesn't like, so it should be changed to two points?  I mean, the 25 is the rule in the NIFL.
 
The indoor leagues without nets use the 20 and 25 yard lines to make team coaches think twice about kicking field goals rather than go for first downs.  A miss gives the other team good field position. 
 
Having the ball set at the 5 yard line pins the opposing offense deep, so it gives an incentive to try to kick long field goals.  That would result in kick-a-thons.
 
In my opinion, the 20 yard line would be much better.  Even the 10 yard line would be better than the "one sack safety" at the 5 yard line.

A kicker would really have to be off to miss both the field goal and the nets in the AFL. [:)]

The nets are each 30 feet wide and 32 feet high.

In the APFL, a failed kick is placed at the previous line of scrimmage or the 25 yard line if the kick was made from outside the 25 yard line. I'll have to go back and check the other league rules to see if kicks inside the 25 or 20 start at the LOS as well.

Kick-offs in the new CIFL come out to the 25 yard line if the ball goes out of play on the fly.

I have gone through the rulebooks of seven or eight indoor leagues. This rule varies from the 5 yard line to the 25 yard line. In my opinion, the 10 or 20 yard line would be much better than either the 5 or 25. yard line.

Some leagues place the ball at the LOS or the 20 yard line - whichever is more advantageous to the return team. As Gary stated in the initial post, if field goals are used as a punt of sorts, the LOS rule wouldn't be great.

Maybe we should take an informal poll on where this should be spotted. It would be nice to have a variable that could be set up with each league, but that would be harder to do.
