LOTS of people play Europe Aflame.

I'd advise people to just use common sense when it comes to entrenchment. Naturally, neutral powers should NOT use their air forces.

If you read the "full" game notes document it recommends adopting a house rule to forbid entrenchment except in certain limited circumstances. I'm currently playing a game and both I and my opponent have agreed to those rules. The problem is that, for both of us, the TOAW habit of automatically entrenching everything possible is taking a bit of breaking: we've both entrenched units we shouldn't have, but we're getting better at not doing it. Other than that self-induced glitch the game is a lot of fun, though it will get complex as the war lengthens. Give it a shot.

Just my $.02,
Ron

Thing is, to break the spirit of the rule, you'd have to be very deliberately gamey. I don't think it really matters if you entrench a unit here or there. It seems intended to prevent a very bloody-minded player creeping across the map and entrenching with dozens of units every turn.

Hi,
I agree, but we decided not to entrench except under the rather limited conditions outlined in the "House RUles" section of the extended EA scenario description. It's times like this that I wish there was a global "entrench/no entrench" switch that one could set for all of ones units in a game. The idea would be to display a warning message about "No Entrenching Allowed" to help those of us who are getting that...whaddya callit?..."old timer's disease"...yeah, that's it. ;)

Have fun,
Ron

Europe Aflame is awesome. I'm in a game and loving it, its also incredibly re-playable. In my current game the Axis invaded Turkey, took Palestine & Egypt and is now being threatened by my Russian army coming through Norway and maybe Sweden.  Very fun.

One good house rule not mentioned- no co-mingling of Russian and Western units or coordinating their attacks.

Also giving some grace in the begining with the rules= players accidently cross borders etc without realizing what they are doing. Must read and re-read the 20 page Briefing that comes with it!  But its one of the greatest scenarios i've seen

Well, this can be an interesting subject for debate, actually. Best to leave this to be decided amoungst the individual players.

coordinating their attacks.
If memory serves, the Western Allies and Soviets were trying to time Overlord and Bagration to be very close together, so I don't see why the player should be restrited from corrdinating his/her attacks.

This can be a good idea, however, there are several graphic mods that make the borders much more visible that can alieviate this problem quite a bit.

Mark Stevens, the father of EA, would be very happy to here this.
To repeat history in a game is to be predictable.
