General Question on Leaders

Post by Wallymanowar »

I know that if the Leader spot in the database is filled with 0000 (none) then the game will choose the appropriate leader (HQ, TF, Large Ground Unit, Small Ground Unit, ship, or air unit) from the database to command the unit when it arrives.

My question is - If I remove any assigned leaders from units arriving as reinforcements, will it affect anything in the game?[&:]

My aim is to remove the duplication of leaders who are already in command of a unit on the map but are slated to command a unit that will be arriving as a reinforcement.
I never blame myself when I'm not hitting. I just blame the bat and if it keeps up, I change bats. After all, if I know it isn't my fault that I'm not hitting, how can I get mad at myself?

You can't have an arriving unit without leaders, so in your case it'll pick a random one, and that has the potential to result in a leader bug situation.

Has this connection to the leader bug been tested and proven? This is the reason I asked this question.

If that were the case then every arriving unit would have to have a leader assigned in order to avoid the leader bug. I know that not every reinforcing unit has a leader assigned, and some units in the initial deployment don't have leaders assigned.

To me it would make more sense that the leader bug is caused by the leader already being assigned to a unit and when an arriving unit has the same leader then the leader routine strips that leader from the unit already on the map and fails to replace him.

I'm pretty sure it has been officially proven, yeah. It can also happen if an on-map unit that shares a leader with a reinforcement unit gets destroyed, in which case the program strips the reinforement unit of its leader, as well, replacing him with WO 0/0.

If the leader is assigned to more than one lcu for instance, that leader will be excluded from game.
It does not matter if the 2nd lcu is suppossed to be in game or not.

Are you saying that if Leader 1 is assigned to Unit 1 and also assigned to Unit 2, Leader 1 will not show as the leader for either unit? R U absolutely sure? I know that stock has MacArthur assigned to both USAAEF and Southwest Pacific Headquarters or do the Headquarter units act differently.

I am absolutely sure of very few things in my life but, a while back I was having some problems with an Australian unit leader not showing up, posted the problem and a dev told me that the same leader can not be assigned to two different units. Once I removed the leader from the 2nd unit everything worked. Btw are you absolutely sure MacArthur is the leader of two different units?[:)]
