Problem with new PDS system

Post by Deltadog »

Using the latest patch. Yesterday the PDS system worked fine. All was well when I shut down the computer last night. I booted the computer for the first time today and tried to access the PDS system. I bring up the game and select the button for the PDS. Next I select a league and team. I have selected three differant 11 man teams and the result is the same. The game starts to load the team and then accross the top of the screen in purple text, I get the following message.

"Object variable or with block variable not set in procedure clsplaydevelopment system.createtoolbar.

Press f9 to attempt to continue."

When I press f9 the game goes back to the main menue.

I have restarted the game and tried again. I have rebooted the computer and then the game and tried to run the PDS with the same results.

(Note the spacing in the message may not be exact. I had to copy the message to a scratch sheet of paper and may not have typed it with the same spacing as appeared on the screen.)

Ok, I saw this last week. I believe what the problem ended up being was the team which I had selected had an invalid playbook (ie, one that was not in the "Plays" folder. I had been messing around and had messed up my plays folder. If that is not it, check the "Plays" folder to make sure that the plays and playbooks are there and had not been deleted by mistake.

Okay that's something I'll look at.. cbelva could be correct. If the team doesn't have a valid play book, it may cause some problems. I'll check that.

It's strange that it would 'just stop working'. Thinking out loud,,,I wonder if something became corrupted when you shut down the machine. I'm not sure what though..

Can you zip up one of the league files that is causing problems and send it to support@wintervalley.com

I think that I have found the problem. It appears that it was as cbelva indicated. The stock kick off play some how was deleted. Since that was the only kick off play I had, all the playbooks were considered invalid by the game. How it suddely got deleted I do not know. I had backed up all the files so I retieved that kick off play and saved it in the play folder and now the PDS works. Since all teams in all 11 man leagues had playbooks using that one missing play it affected all teams and leagues.

It is interesting that if you tried to run a quick play game this message did not appear. The teams ran out on the field for kick off, but it seemed that all the kicking team players merged into 2 players facing each other in the center of the field and then the game would not go any further. Seeing this clued me into the fact that there was no kick off play. This was confirmed when I retrieved the file from the back up set and there was nothing being overwritten when I copied it to the plays folder.

Deltadog.

I replicated the problem here as well. I renamed one of the play book files on disk so it no longer matched the play book for the team. When I attemped to enter the PDS, I received the same error message. I have added some checks for this. The game will still not allow you to enter the PDS with an invalid team, but it does so gracefully now with a more appropriate dialog, and returns you back to the title screen.

Maybe I'm missing something... I'm trying PDS 2.0 for the first time... How do I close it (PDS) and return to the game's main menu?

Also... (I'm sure I'm doing something wrong) I was modifying an existing play, I wanted to add one more point at the end of a pass pattern, so I selected the final point, then clicked the Add Point button, how do I stop adding points?  I ended up with about 100 points all over the field.  How do I add one point at a time, give it a command?

Press escape to exit PDS.

You can stop adding points by right clicking.
