Check the air transport capacity....maybe it's 0 and therefore there are no transport planes available for them.

Were they evaporated and reconstituted? Reconstituted units cannot move by air.

Just to be sure: They are sitting on an airfield?

Are they in reorganisation or labelled as retreated (maybe due to an airstrike)?

What's the weight of the para unit? Check it in the unit report.

It's probably the weather. The dont like to fly and jump in snow, rain, ect. [:D] I found out the hard way.[:-]

The also won't do diddley in the phoney war. Since I do not know what game you are playing, and the date, I can only make general guesses. Paras and gliders do not see to operate under the same constraints. In some scenarios, Paras can only jump once, or on certain turns. I have learned the hard way that they are very effective, but often unavaiable troops.

not reorged retreated in supply able and woilling? no rain.. seems the Spainish forces issue.. ie they are on Sapinish bases and spains forces somehow went away... hopefuly it will resolve itself soon we ARE STARTING OVERMostly due too the Spanish forces vanishing.. fyi why is there no land bridge at Gibralter?

A lot of things being suggested here- weather affecting airdrops, "Spanish" bases, paratroopers only being able to drop on certain turns- are not applicable to TOAW.

Here's what a unit needs for the 'board aircraft' option to be available;
a) an appropriate icon
b) a lower unit weight than the amount of unused airlift available
c) Not a reconstitute
d) located at an airfield
e) to be available for orders in the first place (i.e. can also be ordered to dig in etc.)
f) not moved yet this turn

Nothing else matters. Weather is ignored. The unit can be in whatever state of readiness. The location of the base is irrelevant.

GD is absolutely correct. TO be clear, Freeboy, you said, "not reorged retreated in supply able and woilling?" Are you saying that they are not reorged or retreating, and are in supply and able and willing? Because, if they are retreated they will not be able to jump [as indicated by 'e) to be available for orders in the first place (i.e. can also be ordered to dig in, etc.)'], if they are unsupplied they also cannot jump.<---My mistake. You can airlift units that are out of supply. GD says so and I just did a quick test which confirms this. :D

I'm fairly sure I've airlifted units which are out of supply.

we had some buggy play in this one, maybe a corrupt file.. I inadvertantly ataed Poland thinking I was already at war.. oops.. so Spain joined with 0 troops, and the bases do not support air units.. very odd.. anyway we are back to the fall 39 thanks for the quick correction/clearification.. one thing I have always loved is the great quality of the 99.9 % of the poster on these Matrix boards ,
FYI operation Schnapps in Warsaw was a less than total success due too too many reserves held back forthe Norway Denmark attack in the next game for what it is worth this is an amazing scen and thi sprod has such range.. from theatre ops to smaller unit actions! call me a fanboy!

Yes, it is quite a good scenario. The designer of the scenario would like to be able to take a look at one of your save files. If you want to send a save file from your last game (the buggy one) he would be glad to have a look at it to see what caused the Spanish to withdraw, andfor general debugging. You can sen those files to him at markterence (dot) stevens (at) ntlworld (dot) com

I understand the specs Golden listed for Paras in TAOW3. Does this apply to ALL scenarios. Playing EA, I had a lot of trouble with paras during the sitzkreig, but it could have been aircraft availibity/weight. Also, can a designer add additional restrictions to paras? (may only jump once, etc?[&:]

Were you able to board aircraft? The cease fire effect during the Phoney War would mean their movement would be blocked by enemy held hexes, including those at sea, and the program wouldn't be able to plot paths around them.
Also, can a designer add additional restrictions to paras? (may only jump once, etc?[&:]

That'd be a fairly simple house rule.

GD has mentioned reconstitution several times, but this also applies to sub-units (I think). If you drop your para unit and it breaks into 1/3s and one of the thirds is eliminated, when it reconstitutes, if you recombine it with the rest of the unit, the whole unit now cannot make paradrops. If I'm wrong on this, let me know, but I believe this was an issue in an EA game I was playing at one point.

Yeah. Good point. Note that even if you re-divide the unit, the fragments which could originally airdrop won't be able to.
