Suggested style of screenies for promoting COTA

Post by Fred98 »

I presume the main target customer is the wargamer. With that in mind, I have chosen some same screen shots that could be used to promote the game. The scfeen shots are in a style that I feel would attract wargamers.

Here is a battallion in a defensive position - facing north

Image

Here is the same battallion facing west

Image

The same batttallion on the march - they are moving to the left

Image

And the same battallion on the edge of some high ground

Image

Notice in each and every case, the position of the BHQ, the mortar platoon and the rear guard. This has all been positioned by the AI

Now we just need to check the supply status of the battallion

Image

And the combat values

Image

And we turn on the comand lines. Note the blue line running back to brigade HQ. Any unit can be given an order and many players choose to give orders at the brigade level.

The last screenie is meant to give an example of what the maps look like - this is a zoomed out view with Hill 878 in the centre left.

It is my view that this type of screenie will attract wargamers, as each of the features is described and illustrated.

Hi Joe,

Nice screenies.
If I understand correctly, the point is to have clear detailed situations about what's possible, instead of having more general view.

What does this bring more that MarkShots tips thread ? Less text, more pictures ?

I'd like to have the screens and the text on the article section of my site, may I have your permission ?

Bump.

Ultimately the idea is to promote the game to wargamers in a way they will understand.

Joe, I agree with your approach and that is why I tried to do a little bit of that in my BFTB AAR. What I didn't do and what I so see in at least one of your screenshots is to show how much flexibility there is in shaping the unit footprint frontage and depth. We definitely need more screenshots that show footprints other than the default one.

The thing that prompted me to buy Conquest of the Agean was watching the trailer, and seeing the game `move'.

That was all it took.

Because when you see that for the first time, you can't even believe how cool the game is.

I was frustrated prior to purchase, because the `demo video' would not operate on my Windows Vista.

And I didn't want to watch some lame marketing trailer.

Just as I suspected, they made me sit through most of the trailer, before they showed me the game in motion.

That's the main concept of the game, being in motion, and a Windows Media Player video should be on the front page of Matrix site.

Then they'll sell more `Conquest of the Agean'
