PACWAR 2.0 is still an old DOS-BASED game meaning it will not make use of extended memory or expanded memory (anything above the first 640k) I could have a trillion meg of ram but it's going to do PACWAR no good because it's only interested in using 634k of base memory(the first 640 k ).

If you don't have 634 k base memory free, then aircraft carrier missions are going to give you "not enough memory" messages.

Have a look at forum topics similar to this I think comes under topic "this program wont run on my PC". There are a number of solutions to fix the problem on each PC. Just have a look thru and find one which will help you.

Do the following:
go to start>programs>accessories>system tools>system information>tools>system configuration utility>config.sys then uncheck the command with about 4 lines(1 device and 3 REM lines)
I also stuffed around with autoexec and conf.sys files as well to no avail.
I Have win98 and this seems to fix problem with that operating system.
Let me know how you go...

You CAN change the carrier A/C and missions.
The out of memory warning is a false alarm.
Just type the letter of the air unit you want to change TWICE (ie a a) and the information about the unit will show at the bottom of the screen instead of in a box. Then type C to change aircraft and choose the new type from the list or type M to change the mission from that list. I have had no problems doing this.

I've found a fix for the memory problem in Windows 2000.

1. copy autoexec.nt and config.nt from %systemroot%\system32 to the pacwar installation dir
2. REM out everything in the copied files
3. Create a new shortcut to pac.exe & click on the advanced button under the program tab
4. Adjust the paths to the autoexec.nt and config.nt files to the edited ones in the pacwar dir
5. problem solved!

This worked for me and several others round here under 2000 - basically it's everything the Matrix guys have been saying from the start - definately a case of RTFM (or in this case the release notes!)

Happy wargaming!
