Help!!! No Chat IN Multi GAME...

Post by barbarossa2 »

Am playing COTA online w someone at this moment, and when I hit enter, and type a message, he does not get it.

Same for me. I know where my normal messages are...can read and see them, but there are none from him

Also, none in message log.

ANY IDEAS?

I actually just figured out that the messages level must be set to Routine (that is, accept and show all of routine priority and higher)...

Chat from your opponent won't filter through on "urgent"...it is simply filtered out.

I have to admit that I think that chat from your opponent should always be tagged as the highest priority and should be viewable on any setting. I even think it should get its own distinctive beep or sound. So we KNOW when we get incoming and the s$@t is hitting the fan. Don't know why this should be filtered out. Unless you are playing against someone you don't want to hear from. Like your ex girlfriend who gave you Chlamydia or something. And I don't think you'll be playing her anyhow. [:D]

Well, I thought that was a possibility, but didn't want to sound like a smart A$$.[:)] I did the same thing in my 1st MP game.
Regarding the sound-I whole heartedly agree. Another option (from a non programer) would be to have incoming messages appear in the chat bar on the bottom, instead of with battle messages.

Speaking of sound prompts; how about a Big Ben, or some church bell anouncing "Airstrike" availability?

DAMN STRIGHT!!!! YOU KNOW THE LITTLE SOUND EFFECT WITH THE CHATTER WHEN THE SITRIKE GOES IN????

WE NEED SOMETHING SIMILAR -- BUT DIFFERENT -- WHEN THE AIRSTRIKE BECOMES AVAILABLE.

Right now, I do THINK there is a high pitched BING!...but I am not sure.

We need that chatter so we know the dive bombers are overhead.

If it is a high pitched BING, then it would certainly give people with canine hearing a huge advantage over tankers in online play. I think a seeing-eye dog would be a simple work around for you. He could be trained to howel whenever you had airstrikes available.

However, the munificent Arjuna may have another trick up his sleeve that won't require walking twice a day so you can stand toe to toe with your younger counterparts on the battlefield.

OK we'll look into that. Actually, doing a search in TT found this gem from way back.

TT1171 - UI - Try breaking up report arriving sounds, so we have different ones for each type

I've added these:

TT3232 - UI - Player Chat - Separate chat display view
TT3233 - UI - Player Chat - Ensure chat messages not filtered out, regardless of Msg filter

The latter one ( TT3233 ) is marked as critical for BFTB. TT3232 is a could be - ie subject to time available.

Oh and BTW if you suspect something is a bug then please report it in the Support subForum. That way it's easier for me to keep track of it.

I already have two dogs, so this sounds much more to my liking.
