Crash with certain ingame settings

Post by Brausepaul »

Hi,

I sent this per email to Eric yesterday, but I thought I might put it here as wel as a reference. Maybe others have the same problem?

Hi,

I found a repeatable crash. Everytime I try to start a game with the settings visible in screenshot.jpg(->attachment) I get an error like the one in screenshot.jpg. Deselecting some of the options (or choosing intermediate) will start the game. I have to mention that I applied the temporary fix Gil R. posted at tm.asp?m=1313777 (it concerns Commanders.txt).

Now I'll try to put the mail attachments in here...

By the way, would someone be so kind and try to start the game with the settings shown in the screenshot? I'd like to know if I'm the only one suffering from this.

Has anyone else who has changed the commanders.txt file had any problems like this?

I think I fixed the problem: Office added quotation marks to the very first line while saving the files. The problem wasn't game-caused then. Sorry for the excitement I might have caused.

Yes, I've found I have to be careful when looking at the game files in Office programs.

Use a text editor, like UltraEdit, or use Notepad.

Many of the game's data files are best edited in spreadsheets since they look like jumbles in text editors.  Excel works, but one has to be careful with the save file settings.

Well, I used OpenOffice Calc (I don't own MS Office and I never will), I had to set some options about the format of the file to be opened. I took a glance and made an educated guess to get it right (read: wrong).

While checking files and such I accidently somehow moved one whole folder from inside a folder to another folder ( still dont know how that happened) fortunately for me, while I wasnt sure initial I had moved it, as soon as the game wouldnt load I knew what to do.
Favoritism is alive and well here.
