Aircraft Research
I understand from the manual, that for every 100 aircraft 'produced' by R&D factories the availability of that aircraft is reduced by one month.
Is there any way of telling when this is happening - do the availability dates in the "aircraft replacement pool" go down to reflect the advance, or do they stay showing the default date?
Thanks

RE: Aircraft Research
I have a question on this subject to...
Do aircraft factories on r&d consume heavy industry points?

no, just 1000 supplies per point

No, there is a chance the availability of that aircraft will be reduced by one month.
Pretty sure that any such change is not displayed. Is there any way of telling when this is happening - do the availability dates in the "aircraft replacement pool" go down to reflect the advance, or do they stay showing the default date?

OK - any feel for what sort of chance there is orf bringing an aircraft forward a month per 100 virtual aircraft produced?
RE: Aircraft Research
Varies depending how far in the future the scheduled date is. If it is supposed to arrive in 2-3 months, 100 a/c probably gives you a pretty good shot at getting it a month early. If it is scheduled to arrive 24 months in the future, I'd bet 100 a/c gets you something like 2-4% chance....

RE: Aircraft Research
A very small one, I NEVER succeeded in getting a plane a month earlier
also there is a diminishing return, the chance of getting a plane 1 months earlier 6 months from its arrival date is SMALLER than getting it 2 months before introduction.
But even if it does not work, you already have the plant repaired and ready to go once the plane is available...
My record was 400 tonies a month on R&D and STILL I did NOT get it earlier....

If your R&D is succesful then it surely does display it in the aircraft replacement screen. The date is decreased!

I had it happen in every PBEM I played as Japanese so far. Many of the planes that were researched with more than 150 R&D moved forward at least 1 month. Only saw it moving 2 months though.

Pretty sure that such change is displayed on the intel screen (ac availability date changes)

RE: Aircraft Research
Just have a few observations.
I took a scen, edited it with excel. (Aug 42)
I removed any and all industry (No shipyards, assembly, engines, planes, HI, man, oil, and res)
I placed 1400 HI, 800K Oil and 800K Res in 10 cities in Japan.
I set 6 of these cities with 250 Mi Engines, 250 Reppu plants. (Reppu were due 7-45)
I started the game with engine plants running, the Reppu plants halted, and no replacements.
Both sides had planes grounded, (didnt want to confuse production loss with replacements)
I ran the game until I had over 600 engines. I halted the engines production and restarted the Reppu plants.
I had 1500 production going to research of Reppu planes.
Each turn I noted HI, Mi Engines and Reppu date.
HI went up each turn with no subtraction of Research.
Mi engines and Reppu date stayed the same.
After 20 turns, no change in Mi, or date of arrival. (min daily creates shhould have been 1501/30 = 50 planes or research points a day)
20 days x 50 research points = 1000 research points.
Then just to be sure, I changed one of the Reppu plants to a Kate plant.
After a few more turns Kates were being produced, HI was still going up, but 18 points removed for each plane created and Mi was going down (1 for 1)
By the way, I tried this 3 different ways. (but not with PBEM)
According to the manual
Quote "Whenever a plane would have been produced, 1 development point is gained by the new aircraft type. For every 100 development points the availabilty of the aircraft type will be moved up one month"
My observations.
I should have created over a thousand research points. The intro date of the Reppu should have changed by 10 days.(one day at the least)
Is there an issue with RD? Does it work at all? Is there a bug in one of the later updates? Or did I make a mistake somewhere and wasted a day and a half of my life to prove that I'm an idiot?
And a question on the manual..
Should it be changed to reflect "only a chance" of moving the date up for each 100 as others have suggested?
Or is it correct that " For every 100 development points the availabilty of the aircraft type will be moved up one month"?

RE: Aircraft Research
The manual is out of date. This was changed in an early patch. For 100 R&D a/c produced, you get a chance that the date is advanced one month. That chance is better when the scheduled arrival date is sooner rather than later. I suspect that 3 years out the chance is extremely small.

Ok, sooooo that means "I'm an idiot".

90% of what's in there is correct. There's just no way to know which 90% it is.

RE: Aircraft Research
If it works like PacWar did, and I suspect it does, it only looks at that on the first or last day of the month (dont recall which). I believe it is the first IIRC.
RE: Aircraft Research
As near as I can tell, that is the case. I have never had a/c show up three months earlier than scheduled but I often get them one month early and once I even got one two months early. The arrival date does change, but as Yh pointed out the change only takes place on the first day of the month. It has been my experience that the display does not update untile the 2nd day of the month; when the date advances one month when one month away (my most common case) the date change is concurrent with the delivery of the first a/c.ORIGINAL: Yamato hugger

Not true. I had arrival date advance displayed in the middle of the month.
