PureSim 2008 Plans

Post by puresimmer »

OK, with the final release of PureSim 2007 imminent (next build -- which is pretty much unchanged from the last), we are planning for the PureSim 2008 release. I have the suggestions collected and have been coding on the PS 2008 branch for a while.

One thing I think PureSim has always benefitted from was vigorous support from the user community. So, in a nod to PureSim's past, the PureSim 2008 beta will be wide open to any owners of PureSim 2007! That's right, if you own PureSim 2007, you'll be able to download beta builds, offer suggestions, find crash bugs :) etc.

I will do this in a way that does not impact the official PureSim 2007 install in any way. In other words, you will be able to run them side by side. While the PureSim 2008 Beta will be time-limited, by participating in the beta you will not be obligated to purchase PureSim 2008. I just want to have as many intelligent/rabid PureSimmers to pull this thing apart as we make tweaks and add features. Hopefully you'll be compelled to purchase the final version, but the testing help dwarfs any potential negatives.

If I was to characterize my goals for this year's PureSim, I'm leaning towards adornments to tried-and-true features, more polish and then some new stuff. As you guys all know, I pretty much update the game year round anyway, so this is a natural extension of that process. We are not looking at a re-write here, it's just a continued evolution.

Stay tuned for info on the final release of PS 2007 and the opening of the PS 2008 beta!

Shaun,

Sounds great! One request right off the bat. When installing puresim 2007, if you deleted puresim 2005 first, it messed up the install of '07. If this issue can be looked after that would be great since I would think most people would only remove the previous version AFTER installing the new version.

Yep, this is already handled/supported. I learned from the past :)

I love polish! Is one of the goals to give the game a cohesive UI?

Wow! You can go ahead and write me down as a "customer for life". I just wish I were 20 years younger. I'd then have more ideas and more time available to benefit from your dedication.

I am eagerly awaiting the start of the process, and taking part as much as time allows. And of course, you can count on me to be an early purchaser of '08. [:)]

I agree 110% with the focus. What isn't broken doesn't need to be fixed! More polish sounds awesome and I cannot wait. Please add me into the customer-for-life category.
