desert movement bug

Post by SMK-at-work »

Playing Nth Africa 41-43, and an Italian Cav regt has retreated into the desert sth of Siwa & is stuck there - it can't move, and I can't go in to flush it out - it's one of opnly 2 Axis units left in Africa.....[:@]

The other one is an Italian infantry regiment a couple of dozen hexes west of the aforementioned cavalry, and it can move - I didn't think anything could move in desert off-road??

If memory serves units that move by foot can move in dunes and units that have mixed movemtns and motorized movement cannot. I wonder, however, why that Cav regt. decided to retreat into an area it cannot move into...Unless it had only foot eq when it retreated and then during book-keeping it recieved some motorized replacements...
To repeat history in a game is to be predictable.

Veers is close. When it retreated it had foot movement, but it probably then had no supply, nor replacements on the next Automatic Bookkeeping Phase. Then, with the loss of some of its infantry squads from being OOS, the equipment balance shifted to mixed movement (or motorized) disallowing movement in the dunes.

Well, I'm glad you're back, now I can take a break form trying to answer questions that someone of your own experience should be handling. :)
