Oh my AAR

Post by Hard Sarge »

Well, now this is something I am not used to

first turn, I did well, but lost the last battle in a close run fight, but the Army of Kentucky was able to drive back my small Div, but I held Wheeling

good battle in the West, saves Tenn-Miss Area

Kentucky joins the Union early

Lee is slow in moveing, but finally moves and I take Cumberland, and steal the fort

so, I am losing

then winter sets in

the Army of Kentucky is in Parkersburg, and Lee is in Grafton, Walker has a weak Div in Wheeling, and the Union has started to move in the West

I shift Lee around Parkersburg and move into Wheeling (not the best idea, but I still got a retreat route

the West I move to engage, but the rest of the Armies of the West move in, so back off

the Union has been able to combine, and are too strong in there lands, and pretty dang strong on the attack too ?

what to do

out West, I move my lonely Div to steal some Union forts and to close the gap

in the south, I try to get in place to defend which area the Union decides to land in, 2 Divs ? , I have never seen the Union act like this, this is good

one of the AoPs has moved into Cumberland, another into Annioplis, if I move Early, I can defeat the troops in Cumberland, but then the Union can reinforce with another part of the AoP, or can move into Fredericksburg

I need to get Lee out and moving, but I can't

I got a trap set in the West, if the Union falls for it and if I can pull it off

and then I get what I am looking for, needing

the Union moves on Wheeling

I need a win, I need a big win, and I need to crush the Army of Kentucky, if I can break them, I may be able to get Lee to Cumberland and let Early in place (he is a defence force, not set for the attack)

the battle for Wheeling

Well, I got to say, I like the south

that is a nice hill, the tip has a dug out faceing two ways with a Nap sitting in it, behind it, are two Lorenzs, got good troops in front of it, got a 12 pound gun to the side of the hill

only thing I do not have is range

the north

the Union Routed, I kill French during the retreat

and take 8 Bdes POWs, and inflick 11252 losses on the Army of Kentucky

I hurt em, I hurt em good, but not what I had wanted, the Union gave up too soon (smart of them)

ahhhh, dang, lost my 2nd Army Commander in that battle, I liked him

plus Hardee was a good one too

I will Lose Cumberland, I can't get there, they will be dead before I can reach it, it was a gift, will have to take it back later

the West, they not falling for the trap, one of Armies is held back, gonna have to do it the HARD way

the seaborne Divs are still sitting there, do not know which way they are going, so can not commit

the Dec Win was nice and I am now back in the lead again

plus got some weapons out of it

I move Bee over and plan to make him my 2nd Army Commander (he will only be a Corp Commander right now)

in the West I am going after the Union Army, if it fights by it self, I should clean its clock, if it calls for help, I should still kick it, but not as badly

Hmmm
I must say, this is interesting, got a battle in Tenn-Cumberland-River area

I got 3 Divs in place, and the Union has a Army there and has called for help

now this is about the first time I have been confronted with a Tactic problum, and do not see a clear correct responce, early in my life, my Uncle used to drill me on, what did Frederick the Great say (to defend all is to defend nothing) what does that mean (trying to defend all, makes you weaker, at any one point, and thus easier to be defeated)

but two of the VPs are close, and to defend the one, ruins my defence, so I plan of defending two, but need to spead out, as the Union will try and outflank me from the side and rear, I got a strong Garrenson defending the 3rd, so will leave that alone, with out help, they can not stand, but they are set up well

don't like breaking years of training

Yeehaa

I forgot to say some of the terrain, there is a double river with swamp in the area, my normal defence would of been on the river line, but I do not believe the Union will cross that double river line, so bent my line back away from it, so far, Heavy fighting along the road to the City, which my 12 pounder and my 2 Lorenzs are making a mess of there plans

but my flanking Garrison unit has been shattered, and my 3 reserve troops from the flank have been told to start moving over

for 3 rounds, I have been tremted to break my flank line and rear line, to reinforce my front, my delay pays off, as the Union finally shows up on my flank, I knew there were coming

hmmm, so even breaking years of training, my gut was still right, now my Nap will get to play too

ANV Lee (Jacksons Corps and Bees Corps) all earn there battle flags in Wheeling

Odd Battle, as my forces ended up being split, and since I seen part of the enemy force, I drew part of it toward my one group, while most of the rest went after the rest of my forces, which, I am not sure, if I confused him, or he confused me, as half of his forces hung back and waiting until it was time to run away

which was a smart idea, as if they had crossed the river, they would of been trapped

9 Union Bdes were taken POWed, nothing like a few lines of Rivers and then swamp, to ruin a rout

Crops Early in Fredericksburg also earms there Flags

a nasty confused major battle in Forts and Wilderness was fought with the AoP, all the action was around one fort, surrounded with Woods, poor views and fields of fire, lots of close in action, at one point close to half of my forces were broken or disordered, but what it took to do so, would not let them finish off there attack

I lose Boggs (been a bloody war for my Generals so far)

my Org guns did major damage, even had to repell to charges, my Naps, also had to repell two charges, but did not fair so well in the exchange, but were able to hold there ground

the commander of the Union forces puts up a flag of truce, and sent a messager in, saying that if it pleased the commander of the CSA forces, they would retire now

General Early looked at his Aide and shook his head, and then told the messager to go on ahead, and have a nice day, but just as the messager got to the tent flap, General Early called out, "Hey, you all come back now, you hear"

we'll leave the light on for you

11,000 Union troops will not get the chance to return

Hmmm

the next set of battles were posted in the support forum, to show that the AI will and does attack and attack well

but over all, Lee moves into Parkersburg and captures most of the Army of Kentucky

Killing Gregg (Army Commander) and taking 3 Generals POWed

the AoK is pretty much shattered

two of the AoP moved into Fredericksburg and get into a nice battle with Earlys Corps

Open and Forts

my left flank was all but overwelmed, but I was able to rush the middle and cause enough damage to route the enemy, before they could complete the route on the flank

a very good turn

hmmmm

had a number of more battles, started doing some tests during my game, so got sort of out of wack with it

as I had driven the Army of Kentucky into the northeast and the Armies of the West are staying in place, I was able to run some troops into the middle of the US and make a mess, slipped the ANV around the flank of the AoP and went into Penn and NY, and did major damage with plundering raids

slipped back down and had a major battle in Cumberland and then parked it for the winter back home in Vir

my Siege Div did major work and damage, taking Cinci and then parking it

(it would end up taking Indaina, Lansing, Cleveland and Cloumbus)

Spring rolls around and it is time to ruin the AoP, I now have 2 Armies, ANV and 2nd Army, they both move into Cumberland to drive the AoP out, and then back step into Fredericksburg to drive the AoP out of there, and then rest, and start again (rearming my troops, as I am now getting some decent Rifles)

it is time to go for the kill

as I own most of southern Penn, I take Cumberland again, and then move into Anna, forcing the AoP into Delaware

I can not march into Delaware from Anna, but I can move north and then down into Delaware, I leave one Army in Anna, as the Anvil, while the other army enters to be the hammer, numbers are close at the start, but I am better armed and have better morale, and drive them out, the only place they can go, is Anna, right into my stronger force, when the battles end, the 3 AoPs and the Army of Kentucky are no more

and the war is over
