Upgrades and different battle settings?

What upgrades affect which battles? Do all upgrades affect Quick Combat, Instant battles, and detailed battles? Are certain upgrades only useful if you are playing detailed battles?

I'm curious about this as well. In the PBEM game there are quite a lot of upgrades that seem to only be intended for Detailed combat, particularly for the Training upgrades.

In QC and instant-resolve battle-related attributes, abilities and upgrades are all taken into account in the calculations that determine the winner.
