Sicily to Brenner Pass 43-45

Post by leopard1 »

I'm having problems with lockup during Replacement calculation. Sometimes it will take 15-20 minutes to calculate, but about 1 time in 4 it will lock up completely. I suspect it is due to mapsize or number of units. I've checked video driver, turned off sound, tried to fix a couple of identified errors in event editor, but no luck so far. Any ideas?

Right. Do you have the /17 patch?

You're not waiting long enough.

Just for comparison: I just ran the first few turns of Sicily to Brenner Pass, and it took less than a minute on my machine. 1.2 Ghz, 756 RAM, crappy video card. Unless he has a really slow comp it shouldn't take 15-20 minutes, eh?

Obviously not, since he waited 15-20 minutes and it wasn't enough.

Doesn't sound like your test included casualties. That can have a big impact. For some reason, the replacement system can really bog down sometimes on the monsters.

Finally fixed it - not enough RAM! Loaded it on another machine with 1 GB RAM, now calculating at 5-6 minutes. Thanks for all the advice.

Is it every turn? Or only some turns?

Btw, as posted further above, it should not be the RAM, it loads also with 256 MB RAM.

It's because of the big islands. It's not locking up, it's just taking a long, long, long time to process. I'll see if I can help it with the patch.

OK, it's a bit faster now.

I've speeded up the supply checks a little at the same time.
