CAN SOMEONE HELP?

I'm in the middle of a basic game. I have two questions with regard to movement.

(1) Whenever I try to move one of my raiders (CSA raider) into Kentucky (which is now controlled by the Union), the unit moves into Kentucky, then the very next turn, I find him back in the providence from where he came.

(2) I have tried to auto-join units into bigger containers on a few occasions. They move into the container, then the next turn I find them in the same zone they were in before I joined them into the container unit (by the way, these container units are usually in the middle of a siege when this happens.

Well if you are trying to move units into enemy territory via rail, that often is blocked by the enemy, so you may THINK it is sucessful, then when the actual turn occurs, it is a failure.
Just try marching into the territory, the enemy can't get in your way when you march.
 
Joining units is usually seamless unless you are trying to put more into a container than it can hold.  I think if you right click on a division, or corps, or army it will tell you the limits of what it can hold.  Thats the only reason I can think of that would prevent you joining up units.   I don't think the siege status matters.

Where are you moving from and into ?

if there is a fort there, it will block your movement between hexes
